Then your task as moderator could be to phrase it more diplomatically. Something like:

Should the thread “Tag Picture Quiz” be closed or left open?
      • I don’t mind either way.
      • Close it
      • Keep it open

This avoids (or at least lessens) pushing people towards certain answers, or skewing the apparent results (at the moment there’s one Yes and three Nos, so someone not paying overly much attention, or with an agenda, might not add up the votes for the last three).

That’s a holdover from the Military Modelling forums, where the site’s owners required it. It’s a silly habit, but one that apparently dies hard.

I must confess that to my way of thinking the Tag Quiz is getting a bit silly and obscure, and yes I've had a couple of stabs at it - and by some miracle been correct.

What we see on here isn't a quiz, it's fastest finger to the internet wins. The answer to a proper quiz should come from the memory. If you don't know it at the time, tough luck! Try taking a laptop into a pub quiz!

Regarding those who write "You don't have to watch it, just ignore it!" or similar, members on here, new and old have noticed and remarked on, a marked decline in the number of comments, even 'Likes' showing on models since the start of the quiz. Just take a look at the number of views.... Just a coincidence? You good folks decide.

I'm the most lay back person on the planet and I don't like rules, but I think something has to be put in place to let's say 'Redress the balance'

Tim - Yes, the complainants do contribute to the forum, and you writing to suggest it's just Ian's way of shutting down the thread is disgusting and way out of order!
Also, can I remind you that John the owner of S.M. is quite capable of shutting down the forum. Particularly if he reads such comments as your last sentence, personally attacking a member of his 'team'.

So let's all talk this through sensibly without resorting to personal swipes and ill thought out comments. If they continue I am certain admin. will pull the plug on the thread regardless.

Though I agree, this is inherently difficult to do on an online forum …

Seriously? I find that very strange — but probably evidence of people not being able to ignore (for whatever reason) threads they don’t care for.

Ian in reply to your question, when Dave shows it in his posts on the internet it's education, he's informing .
Whilst the " other thread is to me purely for entertainment.

Interesting comment by both of you,:smiling2:
have you noticed a decline from your members since the arrival of us from the " Other House ".? ..
              And
Personally I rarely comment on things that don't interest me, this must be common as I find I have the same group of posters on my threads.
Anyway I came on here to model , learn and have fun with like minded people.

Well, I suppose it isn't really scale modelling. Neither IMHO is figure painting, or modelling things that don't actually exist, but some people do those things with amazing skill and I wouldn't want to stop their contributions to the forum, I just don't often read their threads.
Yes, sometimes the answers are found by a quick Google image search, but I've learned a lot about modelling-related subjects, and military history, from those searches.
What exactly are people complaining about?

I have never commented on the thread or even looked at it so I have no opinion on whether it is good or bad or whether it is right for it to continue. Makes no odds to me. My only thought is if others enjoy it why spoil their fun? It's a bit like saying "I never eat in Mcdonalds but I want it to close so no one else can"

OK, so I voted for option 1. Not because I have a problem with that thread or have complained to admin about it (if I had I would be more than happy to admit to it) , but because I've just read though this one. I've been a member here for nearly 2 years and I've never known an issue like this to come up before. I certainly didn't like some of the comments directed at the staff who I think do a great job.

I find it interesting that the majority of posts on this thread are from ex-MM members. I understand that you had no choice but to move on from your old home, and you were welcomed (and still are) here. Maybe things were different on MM, but if you are going to integrate you need to accept the admin/mods decision. If you can't, maybe this isn't the forum for you. That is probably going to be taken the wrong way so I will add that it is not meant to be offensive.

                        Just my 2 cents.

                          Bob .Hi .
I think the responses are high from us x members of the other house because we were mostly a regular group of posters , nothing more.
We did in fact have a similar thread of none modelling , a well used thread on funny photos that menbers would post, no quizz but was a go to area.
I don't personally like as I have said the quizz, and can understand the reasons for the admin mods asking.

Pete, in a nut shell some folks think the quiz is taking too much attention away from the models being built and they have also noticed, as I have, the drop in views and comments on build threads. They perceive rightly or wrongly that perhaps members dive in to the quiz and then don't bother looking much further.
As I tried to explain, but was shot down, take a look at the number of 'hits', call them what you will, for the quiz, then look at the relatively low number of posts on builds. It wasn't like that before. That is a fact.

John R.- Where on earth did you find this photo of my wife - Topless! I really must get her to have a shave. That's me in the background camouflaged as a seal. Nifty paintwork, what?!

John, aimed at your last post, we do have a similar thread in caption and quiz's. Title this photo sort of thing. Good fun too!

Well if it is that particular thread causing upset, suspend it for 2/3 weeks.

If then, the general modelling posts are visited more and receive more likes/ comments, we know it was the problem.
We can all speculate till the cows come home....but I feel this is getting too personal and will encourage people to model elsewhere.
