Martin, I'd be surprised if you didn't save significant amounts. An 1800x900mm sheet of 2mm clear acrylic sheet is just £15.99 at Wickes Building Supplies, which gives you enough to build several large cases. Perhaps Wickes also sell the solvent, which I haven't costed just yet.

also have a look in the modellers resource directory there is a company called adhesive brokers ( www.adhesivebrokers.co.uk) who stock all kind of glues and solvents...... i am sure they will source tensol or other brand of acrylic adhesive/ solvent

Dichloromethane (sold as Plastic Weld, in the U.K.,) will do the job.

plastic weld often contains MEK too, so be careful - it will bond acrylic but it can mark the finished surface too...

                display cases

                Hello,

I can make display cases, that wont cost the earth!

All made by hand, no milling machines used.

I use chloroform. it is the best way to join perspex.

difficult to get hold of chloroform now, you can sometimes get it via chemist, but its not commonly held now by most high street chemists.......

I make perspex pots for human anatomy specimens, in a london medical school and pathology musuem. You can't buy chloroform over the counter.

Then the big question is can you buy it 'under' the counter ;-)

A more serious question or two.

How does chloroform work as an adhesive, is it a solvent.

How do you use it with out falling asleep............................................ .......
