Sorry to read of your woes Chris.
If I remember Paul Scot had trouble with a new PC.
I've kept to Windows Visa and Windows 7.
Hope you get it sorted asap .
            John .
            Happy New Year

I thought Windows 10 was supposed to be an improvement on 8? (Not that I’ve ever used either for more than a few minutes at a time, though, so I’m not really in a position to say if it is.)

I use Win10 at work and it seems pretty stable as was Win7 (we skipped 8). Found Vista to be rubbish especially after XP which worked, well most of the time.

Personally I changed to Apple 10yr ago and have never wanted to go back to Windows

13 years for me, after three or four of Linux. But if I’m honest, I want my Snow Leopard back, though with the useful things of current macOS, like autosave, notifications, Handoff, etc.

                    Well,
I'm on Windows 10 - never had a blue screen - most stable version I've used ( and I go back to 3.1 ). I just forget about it - everything works.

Interesting to read all the systems we have . Like Simon my eldest daughter swears by her Apple .The old win 98 I seem to remember was ok and going back further win 95 never gave any problems . Seems they are like Marmite, you either love a system or hate it .

                        Dave, John,

                        I to remember the days of 3.1 - having a mouse was a novelty !!!! :smiling2::smiling2:
Migrated to '95 and that was very stable - no problems.
Working in IT we heard and had a lot of problems with '98, not so much with XP, then Vista etc.
Skipped Win 8 that was worse than '98.
Currently using Win 7 no problems and on my own lappy Win 10 both behaving !! :relieved:

                        Paul.
                        :smiling2:

Much of it’s nostalgia, though: if you were to go back to the Windows 95 you have fond memories of and tried to do the things you do on a computer today (with the software from back then, that will actually work on it), chances are you’ll find it a lot more frustrating than you remember it to be. I have good memories of Windows 3.1 back in the day, as it was a lot better than MS-DOS (though it’s a toss-up whether that was better than Apple DOS 3.3 that I used before that), and I liked Windows 95 because it was better than 3.1. Still, when I fire up some of my virtual machines or emulators with operating systems of that kind of vintage, I very quickly realise that modern OSes are much more convenient to work with than any of those old ones.
