    Has anyone used...

    lucky models?

I have found some stuff on there that i cannot see over here and wondered if anyone had used them before.

Seems a shame that there is so much more (at least when i was looking) available over seas.

What sort of delivery times/import duty did you experience?

Well, i saw some stuff on hannants but it seems that (by their price) they are just importing from there anyway and charging a premium.

Already asked John if he is able to get some of this stuff but no dice.

    Cheers

I've used them three times, and experienced no trouble whatsoever. Do beware their wordings, though, since "Available" means only that it's available to order, and it might be some time before they (and then, you) get it. Look for "In Stock," which means exactly that, and then choose your method of carriage, since it can make a huge difference in cost. Last time, I chose Surface mail, which means by ship, and it took about 6 weeks, but saved about £5-10. By air, and you should get it within a few days, but pay more. Kits are well packed, and you can choose how (and for how much) the contents are described, thereby keeping the customs at bay.

An important point. I imported a Zoukei-Mura kit from Japan which they described as 'dolls' :music_whistling:

I got stiffed for duty (fair enough) and a handling charge (what did they do to earn that?).

It made for a bloody expensive model, but it came out alright in the end!

      Cheers

        Thanks.

How much was duty/handling charge if you dont mind me asking?

I wonder if John could get some stuff imported for the shop. £6 for a 1/48 apache? Madness i tell you!

I'm not 100% sure exactly what they were but about £15 each. That puts about 30 quid onto the price of an already expensive kit.

Import duty and handling charges (which legally apply to all imported goods which are eligible for duty, i.e. most goods), are calculated on value and cost.

Any respectable seller will not incorrectly label their product for you as it causes two problems, one being if inspected and it occurs frequently, they can get hammered by customs, fined / prosecuted ultimately and eventually have to stop shipping overseas, another is, their declaration and value directly relates to their ability to claim the value back if the goods are damaged or lost/stolen in transit.

Order away but seriously, don't ask them to label it incorrectly, gifts, etc, (if they offer thats different and their look out) and be prepared to pay import duties.

Ultimately, if the kits are available in the UK check the cost vs the cost + duties and see if it calculates favourably, if you are asked to pay duties BTW, you don't get the goods till you've coughed up at the PO so you potentially risk losing purchase cost and model if you can't pay them.

Yes, I've had several orders from LuckyModel. Delivery has taken between 2 & 3 weeks and I've never been touched for import duty

I used to order loads of electronics from China & Hong Kong and that stuff got straight through customs too, lucky I guess

If you have any enquiries LM's email response is very good too

Personally I try to buy stuff from UK suppliers, if possible but some things you just can't source here, in which case I'm happy to use LuckyModel

                Cheers all.

Generally speaking, i do order from UK suppliers but there is a significant cost difference (depending on any fees i will incur) on 1 item that i can only see at Hannants. Plus, there are a few other items i cannot see over here.

                Fingers crossed

                  Lemoff

I have used them on more than one occasion and found them very useful indeed, if I were you I would have a go they are very helpful and can get the stuff to you very quickly. all I would say is read the ordering information, if you see where I am coming from? It may be useful to do that.
