    A visit to the Pampanito

After many months waiting, I have finally been able to go down to San Francisco and visit the Pampanito; I wore my Pampanito Captain's cap with the emblem and the "scrambled eggs" on the brim, and they gave us free admission! The Pampanito is maintained by the San Francisco Maritime Museum, and is seen here with the Jeremiah O'Brien liberty ship in the background:

Typical compartment vertical water-tight hatch (dimensions of frame opening, 20" x 36" and lower edge is 20" above the deck):

Here is where you wash dishes for 75 crew members daily!

Here my friend Jeremy sits in the mess next to the galley pass-through window; those are small tables, only 2ft by 5ft!

Here's a peek through the pass-through at the galley sink and one of the two electric ranges (on the right is a deep-fat fryer between the ranges).

    Port-side controls, after corner:

Diving station; the wheels are 30" diameter, and in this case the rims have been bound with cord to provide non-slip surface:

My batteries gave out when I went to photograph the "Christmas Tree" or hull opening indicators, so the flash did not work and I only got the lights!

That's all I got this time, but before I can do much detail on my model, I will require several visits, as I could only get a few essential details today; I may need to contact the museum and make some special arrangements to visit areas closed to the public, and that could take some time to arrange.

Now I should be able to start back into my sub miniature.

    Regards, John

Looks like Alcatraz in the background.

Spend 3 days of my honeymoon in San Fran, would love to go back there for longer.
