    Micro R/C Equipment

I was thinking it might be fun to try to cram some R/C gear into my latest scratchbuilt vehicles. It's a while since I looked at Radio control and still have my Futaba R/C 2 channel equipment. It'd be fun driving the open hull around my desktop whilst I work on making the other more finer details.

I've been looking at small servo's and receivers and mixer boards for tank control and there's a wealth of products available for models, robots and micro indoor aircraft powered by cd-rom drive type motors etc.

This thread is just a very general question if anyone has played around with conversions of very small tank models, r/c trucks etc. Geared down pager motors would seem ideal for driving turret rotation etc too.

I'd be interested in seeing how others have come up with similar solutions.

I know of a guy who used one of these very cheap Chinese subs to provide the thruster units for a plastic model of the QM2.

The ship looked like it actually had pods on it which was very effective.

The point is some of these really cheap simple toys can have a supply of miniature bits suitable for canabalising for other projects such as yours.

i once turned a small plastic kit of a fishing boats into a mini RC vessel, - i took the advice of a fellow club member who assisted in butchering a servo for propulsion - we strpped the servo down and removed the gearbox and fitted the servo motor directly to the tiny propshaft, then used the board in the servo in theory as a ' replacement' ESC- it worked ok, was never that happy with it and at such a small scale ( i tihnk about 1:200 ) any ripple over about 2 mm was like sailing in a force 9 gale....
