    Unhappy Modeller needing to vent

Why in God’s name do I buy aircraft!
And why do I buy them in 1:72, I build 1:35 amour normally.

I am falling out with modelling big style at the moment, I just can’t get things right. I keep cocking up sanding and part attaching, lost the power to sand round things all of a sudden and feel like I need to set fire to my kit. I am addicted to modelling and adore it but at moment I hate my drug of choice.

Please tell me there are others out there that have had this?
Is it the kits I am building or is it Airfix 1:72 German aircraft that are pushing me over the edge?

Alexander never build if you are tired,if things are not going right then give a break for a few days,I am an artist as well as a model builder and it is common to not want to paint for a while as things are going wrong, you are not alone we all suffer this at some stage, keep at it but have a break.

        Thanks guy, means a lot

I am going to follow that advice and have a little break I think and my ME 262 was like your Focke, fill, sand and repeat.

All been there. No matter how old or young, skill set etc, we all get into some low points, like a lot hobbies. I have had to retrain as my disability got worse over time, 1/72 was out, 1/35 went, scratch making and kit bashing has slowed as I just cannot do it. I now do 1/16 RC mainly and the level of detailing has dipped, I just have no patience. I have had to make myself understand that I can do what I can do now...not what I used to.

Now, in your case it just seems that you are not getting with the wingy things, sometimes a change can be great but, they can be a struggle as you are learning new ways to do things. Leave alone and do a 1/72 tank or armour vehicle-then go back, working on that scale may just help. You will crack it, just take a break as this always help.

I am an armour builder Alex and I have yet to come across a kit that doesn't have issues with flash, sink marks, injector marks etc. Add to that crap instructions and poor fit its not surprising we don't go mad more often. I haven't modelled long and I am keenest of the keen to build a kit however there are times when the frustration of modelling drives me to despair. Staying away from the bench is vital to help build up the desire to model again. I also find that during the dark times looking at other peoples builds and researching more gets me back into modelling. Some people have a lot of shelf queens as they fall out of love with a model but get the mojo up by building another model. Whatever you decide remember your not alone and I am sure you will come back fighting with renewed vigour.

One thing I have learned about modelling is know when to walk away from the bench and do something else.

Described the feeling to a 't' Alex. Sometimes it just stops going right for a while, but the drive to model just pushes you on into frustration and despair. My advice would be to change scales and type - go back to 1/35 armour modelling for a while or, if you can, have a break and do something entirely different. Chin up!

It happens to most of us.
I used to be always painting figures but I have lost a lot of the passion for them.I think this happened because I was painting a lot of comission figures and they were all Napoleonics,I stopped doing these comissions( for my own sanity) and started concentrating on ships.

                        Alexander,
just put it back in it's box - it's not going anywhere! We all have bad patches where nothing seems to work. Don't force it - if you're not in the mood, you won't enjoy it. Model making is a hobby, so don't put yourself under self-inflicted pressure!
Personally, I take a break away from the bench, do something different ( I put my headphones on and read! ) and when I return, I make something quick and simple, like for example one of the 1/72 HobbyBoss quick assembly models - a few pieces, but surprisingly detailed! Once you've got a bit of confidence back, then things will naturally follow..............
                        Dave

Think you are not alone Alex, I have been known to actually set fire to a model ! and more than once, mainly because I don't want to bin it,
Just yesterday I had to walk away from what was a simple problem later after I had cleared my mind.

" Step away " is a good thing, all will return.

A dig in the dirt, a good book, that honeydo project you've put off. Sometimes I just sort through the spares/bits laying about. Stepping away is a good refresher. PaulE

                              your not alone

i get really frustrated when things go wrong.....even worse when it happens several kits on the trot.......had a period last year when i actually binned 3 kits in succession cos they went so wrong, felt like giving up

what i do is go to my fave subject.......braille scale armour!.............do something simple and prove to yourself you can do it

btw........as much as i like aircraft i hate building kits of them
                              Per Ardua

We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no ones been
