Why choose, have them both! I have made as many aircraft over the years as I have ships but in between I have also made cars, a lot of motorcycles, figures, vintage vehicles, tanks, etc..,etc..
That's the beauty of modelling make what you want then go on to something entirtely differrent.
When I was young the models I really enjoyed were space rockets such as the Airfix Saturn V when it first came out and wowed us all!
Well, I am like Richard really..( err well I don't actually look like him )
But I am interested in just about all models. Have built everything in the past, i would have a house full if " SOMEONE " didn't keep pulling the reins in. I can appreciate the skill in all models.
You can also open up your own ideas and skills by talking to someone else that models in a totally different area to yourself, I have learnt bucket loads of tips and ideas of the military guys...espescially when it comes to painting and detailing, their skill just amazes me. Thanks guys.
I'd choose ships over aircraft. I normally model AFV's as I can avoid the need to achieve really high gloss paint finishes and can go for dead flat paint. Boats are great because a lot of them are painted with yard brooms!
Being into R/C nowadays that put me firmly in the model boat camp as far as that is concerned.
One mistake with a boat and you may be in with a chance of getting it back or you may even be able to recover a sunken model if you have to. One mistake with a plane and you try to see how many servo's you can find!
