Been wondering for a while now about getting a lightweight trailer tent for visiting festivals/rallies and the like. Does anyone on the forum use one? I'm interested in something like the Cabanon Venus which is quick to put up without to much complication. I've had a lot of years experience with trailer and motor caravans and even a couple of tents - but never a trailer tent. I don't want to change the car and start looking at rigid caravans, motor caravans are too expensive to have for casual use so I thought a trailer tent would be a happy compromise. Any comments would be appreciated.

I used to go to a lot of living history events, tried a cara-trailer one year but found it not worth the effort... But then again i have a long wheel base series II landrover which has space in the back for all my kit and for me to sleep in a sleeping bag.
It depends on your minimum level of exceptable comfort! the trailer i borrowed from a mate cost him £5000 2nd hand, took about 20 minutes to put up and was quite cozy all in all... i just found it a pain to find room to park, plus all the hassle of unhitching the dratted thing and setting the supports...it also tended to rock a fair bit in any wind as it was a third of the wieght of a caravan!
also it was rather small! ok for one but two would be a bit...cozy.

Had a trailer tent myself once, just make sure that it is one that can be put up quickly and above all in wind ! the one I had was a nightmare in such conditions, the last thing you want after a long journey is to spend a long while putting up something awkward single handed.
They have probably improved a lot since then, but just wanted to tell you about my own personal experiences.Comment

just sold my caravan 2 days ago, going to stick with my large tent for now, it goes into the roof box ontop of the car, it means i can still travel in the fast lane- not stuck to 60mph whentowing and better still it does not obliterate the MPG on my people carrier which at times was down to 12 mpg when towing !
the new tents are seriously quick ot put up too.....Comment
