    Showing Your Favouritism

Do you have a favourite thing to build?
I don’t just mean planes or tanks or boats, I mean a specific model?
One that, if a new kit comes out with a different, more realistic...I don’t know...propeller or whatever, you’d have to have it?

Personally, mine seems to be the RAH-66 Comanche. I built a 1:72 one years ago (photos buried in the completed helicopters thread somewhere if you’re interested) and ordered another one yesterday.
I know it’s the same kit in a different box but I liked making it. Also ordered some Supercobra decals for it in the hope that they’ll somehow fit.
Then last night I found out that there’s a 1:48 scale version too!!
I realise that it’s probably only an up-scaled copy of the 1:72 frames but I’ll be getting one of them too.
I think I enjoyed it so much because the project was binned so there are no real set colour schemes.

What’s your favourite model to make?

I recently completed a trio of mosquitoes (pictures in completed aircraft), 3 different sizes from 2 different manufacturers. I really enjoyed building them.

I always think I like painting figures more but I get frustrated with them because I’m not as good at them as I want to be. I seem to be happiest when I can let my imagination go and I don’t need to stick to specific colour schemes. Did a VW Samba bus a while back too and printed my own hippie bus decals for it too. Model was a pain to build but I enjoyed it in the end.

I used to paint Warhammer figures. Never understood the game but the figures were good. Some of them turned out quite well. I never stuck to the painting guide.

My favourite models vary over time. 30 years ago, I built a series of A-4 Skyhawks and AH-1 Cobras in 1:72, for example; 20 years ago, I built a fair number of M26/M46/M47/M48/M60-series vehicles in 1:35; after that, I think, it was M113 variants in the same scale; lately I’ve been on a bit of a Sherman trip, and even though I’ve only built three so far (not counting the other Shermans I’ve built in the past) I’ve got a number of variants waiting to be built, also in 1:35.

I particularly like building D-Day campaign subjects as there is something for everything except winter. I can do Espionage, Sea, Air, Land, Civilians, Experimental, Preparation, Defence, Attack, Rescue, Tests...basically it's a wide range of something specific. Actually anything that donned Allied stripes if they are planes.

            Cheers,
            Richard

I really like the look of the Bf 109 F and G versions, with that big spinner and so many paint schemes possible...
Further the Spitfire (I, II, V, IX), although cliché it's such an iconic and elegant airplane that it's been on my list from the very beginning...
