    Building buildings!!

    Hi all,

Just a bit of an observation really.

It's great to see so many people having a bash at making buildings, be they scratch or in kit form.

The 'Sniper' G.B. has really brought this aspect of our modelling into focus.

With not a great deal of outside info., I particularily like the fact that those of us who are having a bash at making these things are all (including me) more or less new at it and everyone is showing pictures, sharing tips and suggestions and we are all taking tentative steps and learning together this fascinating arm to our hobby. This can produce nothing but good and we will hopefully all get better with each 'House' (Yes, even a humble wall) we erect!

    More power to you boys!

    Merry Christmas.

Would it be an idea to somehow distill all of this expertise into some sort of "How To" that condenses all the great ideas we've seen into one coherent thread that could be stickied?

      Good idea.

There is a Scratch Building forum which is in the 'modelling section', but no sticky as yet.

Have any Mods. any ideas for improving it? Perhaps along the lines of 'How to make a door, window, wall or pavement.' sort of thing, in some form of quick reference.

Personally I think that the scratch build section is more a hindrance than a help. Only in as much as it could become a hotch potch off all the other sub forums. Tanks boats aircraft buildings, trains, all knotted up in one big clump. I would much rather that the relevant sections where used. Be it for a kit be it wood or plastic or for scratch builds. Also where does one draw the line. A lot of us scratch to some extent, Tiking for example, Behind those wonderful lorries that he builds there is a kit and a huge amount of scratch building.

My suggestion would be to start a thread in the Diorama section call it some thing obvious; Bob the builder? and have all the how to bits in that thread well and truly stuck/pinned at the top.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

I suppose the trouble is with including the 'Scratch work' in an actual thread build is that once the build is nothing but a memory, and disappears off the forum into obscurity anyone wanting to know how to build a door, for instance, would have to troll through the threads trying to find a reference to it.

So how about a 'How to' forum? Where folks could have instant access to various methods of making one off stuff.....

          Just another thought.

Is that not kinda what I said. Start a thread in the appropriate section give it a title that will be totally obvious: 'The complete guide to scratch build a building' or what ever takes your fancy. Make or have it made a sticky so it will always appear first or at the top section of the page. Just remember the more stickys there are the lower down the rest of the 'ordinary' posts will appear!

Or you could use the tutorials section or the quick tips section...

As for needing to trawl all the forums to find a bit of info again there is always the search button.... Having one thread with all the genders mixed together is not going to make things easier. Well I don't think so anyway.
