    Photos from Bovington Tank Museum

A while ago I visited Bovington Tank Museum armed with my digital camera and took about 900 photos...well ok it seemed like a lot actually it was only 355!

Because tanks are rather large and there are a lot of them in a rather confined space at the museum - most of the photos are just of the walk around or squeeze between kind - the ones that are useful for modelers who want a bit more detail than some of the moulded in parts on a 1:35 model anyhow.

Heres a selection - if you are interested and would like some of the pics higher res, most of the vehicles at bovington are photographed I can upload them onto the net as an insanely large ZIP file!

Great shots Alan and perfect for getting the weathering just right. Look as how subtle the rusting is on the fittings but how much it makes them stand out.

I'd put a few in the gallery on here for the help of our Armour friends to use as reference.

I uploaded a few more images of the Challenger and also a few of a modified T55 which operated in Iraq.

Note the use of the counterweight added to the rear of the vehicle to compensate for the weight of the additional armour added.

Some more pics of another T55 from Bovington - I've uploaded these onto the Gallery and lots more!

The first one shows up the rough appearance of the turret casting and also an additional guard around the gap between base of turret and hull.

Really must pay a visit to Bovington sometime. This is the Museum's Tetrarch positioned in the remains of a Hamilcar glider. Don't suppose you have any more pix of this "diorama" do you Alan?.

Unfortunately I didn't manage to take any photos of that exhibit. There's so much at Bovington though, I'll probably take another trip there this year though - the admission ticket enables you to return as many times as you like in the year.

I'll get some photos for you when I'm there.

Thanks Alan - I've got plans to scratch-build a Tetrarch using plans and instructions gleaned from a 1970's issue of Airfix magazine....anything showing detail, especially of the tracks/wheels, would be great.

More lovely shots Alan and a great help to any modeller. Some of those weathering details are superb.
