    F1 Crash

Not sure if anyone else watches the F1 racing but i have to say that i've just watched a horrible crash involving Grosjean. How he got out of that alive and without serious injuries and burns is unbelievable. Well done to the rescue crews and the designers of the car.

He was lucky that the medical car arrived so quickly, the accident happening on the first lap after turn three.

One local marshal operated an extinguisher ineffectively from, shall we say, a safe distance. Discretion got the better part of valour for the rest. It was the extinguisher operated by one of the F1 medical staff that seemed to clear a path for Grosjean to escape.

That Grosjean literally walked away from that is testament to F1's commitment to safety, both in the drivers protective equipment and the features designed into the cars. He is still a lucky man, I wonder if he does the lottery :smiling3:

Edit: Having seen other views of the drama there was one local marshal, on the same side of the incident as the medical car, who got stuck in with his extinguisher. He did his job with considerable courage in the face of such a fire and for that he deserves considerable credit.

Professionalism will out. Respect the marshals, but the pros always shine in dire circumstances. It's strange how fiery crashes are the farthest thing from your mind while competing. Only occasionally thinking "don't break the ride". PaulE

It was a scary crash, but the car breaking in half & catching fire is very rare these days, fortunately.
