Pigeons do not seem to be the brightest of God's creatures. We have some who do something similar - they splash about in the puddle on a nearby flat roof while it is throwing it down.

They do seem to have a very small head in relation to their body, i.e. not much room for a brain.

One day I watched a woody building a nest.....he flew towards the nest looking really proud, with a stick that was about a foot and a half long.....then spent about twenty minutes trying to get it through the tree to the nest site.

We've one that keeps us laughing - after a dry spell, in the first shower and it sits on the birdbath, raising one wing then the other - leaning over so that the rain gets under the wing, just like somebody taking a shower.

Funny coincidence, we had one yesterday doing exactly the same, just sat in the bird bath for about ten minutes then flew away.

We have pigeons about, not very smart though, they will come to peck at the livestock feeding bins and are invariably snatched up by the barn kitties.

Last pigeon that took a bath in our garden got grabbed by a hawk. One minut it was there, the next a big cloud of feathers.
Often get visits from a falcon that comes looking for mice. One day I'll have a camera close at hand!
Personally I would welcome more hawks and the such. Might keep the pigeons out of the veggie garden!

Yes Ian , they can be quite a pain, not so much as their presence or the negligable amount of feed they may consume
but because of their copious amounts of droppings.
They contain many parasites and harmful bacteria that can effect very negatively domesticated animals.
They contaminate feed and water supplies and it looks like bloody hell, sometimes reaching several inches in depth in the barns and must regularly
be scraped out.

We send the kids out every so often with their air rifles and they kill them by the hundreds but it never even seems to put even a dent in them.
