    First pint....

Today we popped into a pub for a pint for the first time in 6 months and what a pleasure it was.

The pub in question is The White Hart in Hythe who have done wonders with their 16th century courtyard, turning from just a place for smokers, to a really nice al-fresco drinking and eating area.

Looking around it seems that quite a few other premises have done similar improvements. I cannot help but think that this bodes well for pubs for the future encouraging a more al-fresco lifestyle in the long term.

it was so pleasant that my missus, not being much of a drinker, moaned about how she didn’t really want to sit shivering outside over a drink and actually ended up enjoying herself, so much so that we actually had lunch there!

Has anybody else enjoyed their first al-fresco pint yet and did you enjoy ‘improved’ outdoor facilities?

Anyway, cheers Boris my ‘ole mucker.

Always thought things tasted better outdoors. We used to do it often. PaulE

I haven't had a pint outside since I gave up smoking about 15 years ago, it's hard to find an outside space that doesn't smell like an ashtray! I don't mind so much, but Management (SWMBO) does.

Nice one, not had a pub pint in a long while......our local village pub has been shut for a year now apart from its B and B business and I’m not sure it will ever reopen!

I just sit outside my front door, have a pint of Strognbow Dark Fruits and enjoy the view i have of the mountain in front of me. Nearest pub is 2 miles away and the prices plus taxis make it an expensive trip lol.

Similar to me - closest pub is about one and a half miles away, so just enjoy the views I have here, rather than sitting beside a main arterial road into town.

Last time I was in a pub was over ten years ago during a visit to England.
Most "pubs" in DK are just drinking holes. Those that have made an effort are mostly prefixed with 'the old' or 'ye olde' English or Irish pub. And have as much to do with an English or Irish pub as a Beef steak in a Vegan salad.

Well think of it this way, walking a 3 mile round trip for a pint is enough of a ‘work up’ to justify an extra pint. A couple of pints a day to keep you fit....

Sounds like an excellent excuse for a couple of beers.

Such a long time since I had a pint, I think I'll have to start on halves!

But with views like this, I'm not going to replace that with a main road any day soon

I did manage a couple of pints of Guinness yesterday in a very cold pub garden in Keston Kent - first one for a long time - might just try another soon ! Cheers !!
