Richard, he quit a while ago after getting a metaphorical slap for asking if Ron was OK. His account has been deleted.Comment

I thought he was joking when he asked to delete his account. The attrition rate if I may call that of promising modellers is pretty high for this forum. Sad.
People management isn't an easy job and requires experience and at least some kind of qualification. Unfortunately nobody likes being disciplined by somebody they hardly know especially if it concerns middle aged adults who are quite set in their ways. :smiling2:
Cheers,

People come and go. That's the nature of forums. The attrition rate as you state, for this forum isn't high at all. In fact it is most definitely a lot lower than on other modelling forums i frequent. People management doesn't need a qualification at all (although i do have one). Common sense is far more important and useful. The topic in which Andy decided to leave had it's issues, but none that couldn't have been sorted out civilly. And i believe the point in question was resolved. Andy carried on with his decision to leave and i for one respect that. I would like to see him back as i think he is/was a knowledgeable and talented modeller.
It's very easy to get the wrong end of the stick from comments made on the internet. Things can boil over very quickly.
All i ask is that if you have a comment you disagree with, use the report icon and it can and will be sorted out, with appropriate actions being taken, behind the scenes by admin and yourselves.Comment

Very true on both counts - being an owner (therefore a site admin) of a forum, it's often a hard and thankless job trying to 'keep the peace', and if a person asks for their account to be deleted, it's their decision - all any of the 'team' running the forum can do, is to try and get some dialogue going, but if all communication is one way, then all that's left to do, is to concede to that members wishes.Comment

This is what smileys were invented for. Unfortunately, this again depends on people reading them the way the writer intends them to, and IMHO there are far too many being used now to clearly convey that. Back in the day, all people used was [ICODE]:-)[/ICODE] and [ICODE]:-([/ICODE] to convey “I mean this in a funny way” and “This makes me sad”, respectively, which was pretty much universally understood. Now, even if you do use things like
and
that way, chances are good everyone will read something else into it.
True, though I think the main task of an admin (something I’ve been doing for 20+ years) is to not do much of anything unless people are being insulting, abusive or otherwise disturbing the peace. If they’re not, let them do what they want.Very true on both counts - being an owner (therefore a site admin) of a forum, it's often a hard and thankless job trying to 'keep the peace', and if a person asks for their account to be deleted, it's their decision - all any of the 'team' running the forum can do, is to try and get some dialogue going, but if all communication is one way, then all that's left to do, is to concede to that members wishes.Comment
