    HELP! Please help if you can.

    Hello all,

    I'm an avid maker of balsa wood planes and am in the process of finishing a Guillows Spitfire. The predicament that i have is that ive been told that i need to use enamel paint on it. But is it possible to use acrylic specifically ModelAir. The paper on the plane has been shrink doped and is dry. I am wondering whether the paint will react with the paper or dope being water based and that is why enamel should be used.

    The plane wont be flown/thrown just a static model so weight isnt an issue.

    I hope someone can help or guide me somewhere that can, the plane is one of the best ive done and i really dont want to ruin it.

      I don't know much about balsa wood aircraft Reg, but I can't imagine any acrylic, especially not Vallejo causing any problems. If the dope is properly dry, then you should be fine.

      Perhaps you could use some spare material to mock-up a test piece & see how the ModelAir goes on and if there's any adverse reaction?

      My hat's off to you for building such a fine plane.

          Hi Reg.

          I cannot see Vallejo Acrylic Model Air affecting many things. It is mainly water based so if not affected by water ?

          But to be sure as you cetainly do not want to ruin the fine effort you are making email Vallejo & give them you problem.

          They really are a top company with information & I have had replies within a couple of hours.

                  Yes be very interested Reg to see the reply but more to see your final model.

                  Thought mine were labours of love but you certainly have taken the really high rocky route.
