As this has come back to life, I will add either version (Jack Benny or Mel Brooks) of “To be, or not to be”…..mostly for the “Pickle” joke but also for the Shylock scene and some of the great one liners scattered through the script.

By the way, has anyone mentioned “The great dictator “ by Chaplin? Some of the imagery is simply superb.

A superb story, acting & film. The African Queen.

Amazing as the film is mostly Humprey Bogart ( at his best ever) with Katherine Hepburn.

Chased by the Germans in WW1. The adventure down the river in this steam boat. All filmed in Zaire & Uganda.
Watched it numerous times. So many adventures all in one film. Story by C. S. Forester of Hornblower fame.

Apart from the 1977 TV film extension of the story. I’ve never seen it, and from the reports I’ve seen, I never will LOL…The original is great though. Two fantastic actors at the top of their game!

Yep, and once she falls for him it changes from “Mister“ to “Dear”….quite a poignant moment.

Im watching the “Fighting Kentuckian” at the moment….probably the strangest co stars in film history…John Wayne and Babe Hardy…..

I remember watching that many many years ago when we still had B/W television. It's time I watched it again.

                  Cheers,
                  Richard

Not to familiar with a lot of the older films you guys have mentioned but the African queen is a great movie.
1917 is a fantastic film for those who haven't seen it, do!

There’s probably scope for a “worst films” thread if you want to start it Jon…..
