Talking Pictures . Channel 81 for Wingy lovers.

Hi all, just seen on the tv that on Monday 31st is a 1935 documentary on the RAF by a
    Squadron Leader W Helmore.
It's about training new recruits and aircraft of the period.
Might be an interesting watch .

Well, that was something - Hinaidis, Valentias, Wapitis, Horsleys, Baffins, Seals and HMS Furious, 25 Sqdn Furies- for a silver wings man like me, joy unbound! THX John

Yeah, but he only does it so he can buy the second yacht to park his helicopter... I wish that was a joke

Very interesting , not being a Wingy at least the shots of Cranwell where my dad went in 1939 as a boy entrant. From there to Heliopolis then when war broke out was posted to
Bletchley Park where he was an instructor. He never spoke about his job,nor did my mother who was a radio operator.

There was a lot of footage of Wapitis in, or over, Egypt, but I've no idea what the base shown was - perhaps Heliopolis?

Interesting that airman training was over in the first five minutes, then the next trn on Cranwell!
Also shown were RAF regiment in Egypt and the Rolls Royce Armoured Car Squadron!

Lot of emphasis on the Fleet Air Arm, with officers and ratings training
HMS Furious had a ramp up deck too, which I've never seen before! An early version of the ski-jump!
