          Normally I'm very much against rats and can't see the point of them, even as pets/lab animals - but this time I'm glad that these are about! Though from the pictures and reading the article, sounds more like a 'desert rat' or gerbil - but bigger?

              Reading about this little "sniffer" got me Googling land mines. Terrifying!! The numbers left and unmarked from conflicts around the world and the number of people who each year are killed or maimed by them, many are children. Really upsetting.

                  They do brilliant work, went to a talk by APOPO the charity that trains them, absolutely fascinating. They are Giant African Rats, first started working in Mozambique.
