My next build will be the superb Zoukei Mura 1/32 Hs129 but I wont be starting it for quite a while....
Why?
Well, as you know I sold my business and retired at the end of March and my Missus is retiring at the end of June.
One thing lockdown has achieved is demonstrate that our relationship will not work once we have both retired and it has been under strain over the last 15 months or so.
I therefore made a decision to buy a place and move out and to do so while our separation can be achieved in a civilised manner and we can remain friends after. It is the right and sensible thing to do.
I have therefore made an offer on a very nice seafront flat in Dover which has been accepted and the conveyancing for which started last week. As there are no chains and it is a cash purchase I am hopeful it wont take too long though, as I am sure we all know, these processes can take a number of weeks.
It is quite exciting, the flat is minutes away from restaurants and pubs with a nice view of Dover seafront and harbour. Once the purchase has completed I will have to get a new kitchen and bathroom, get it decorated throughout and furnish it all from scratch including a full blown home cinema system. I am no DIYer so I will be getting professionals in to do the work and, even so, I will have a busy time getting it all sorted and under way.
Now here is the relevance for this site..... I will, of course, be leaving behind my modelling bench area which has served me well over the last 5 years. While it looks and is good, it is just the end of the garage and my Missus will not let my models and modelling stuff stray outside this small area.
In my new flat I will have a whole spare double bedroom to fully utilise as a man-cave. Nobody to restrict my vision and can design and develop a bespoke modelling areas how I wish. I don't expect to devote more time to the hobby but will do so in more comfort. My initial plans for this room include:
Flooring: Royal Blue carpet tiles. The colour because dropped parts will 'stand out' and the low nap offers nowhere for the carpet monster to hide while 'deadening' any part bounce. I will have to keep it vacuumed and keep the floor clear of boxes etc so parts have nowhere to hide. The room has a built in wardrobe where I can keep spares etc currently in boxes under the bench. Carpet tiles can individually be replaced as well if I get a spill.
The spray booth area and build areas will be separated so, hopefully, there will be less of a dust issues when spraying. I might even be able to have the booth permanently venting outside but that is yet to be established. Both areas will be slightly bigger than I currently have. I will be able to have a lot more shelf display area as well.
I will bring in a carpenter friend to do the work so it will be fully designed to my specification.
I will have a nice comfy chair too instead of my stool and a place to set up my computer, well away from the dust and spray.
I will even have room for a bed-sofa against one wall as I might have a guest one day, who knows!
This are my current thoughts and I will update you about progress.
So, my intention is to start my next build, the Hs129 in the new man-cave so I don't know how long that will be.......
I have a couple of ideas to help me keep my modelling juices flowing between now and starting the Hs129.
I have been building a 1/48 multi-engine stash of subjects that are not available in 1/32 as 'new tools' or, if available, are too big for practical purposes in 1/32 or I have already built in 1/32 and there is a 1/48 version that interest me. I currently have 14 kits in the 1/48 stash with one I plan to buy when it is released. I am planning to do a thread in which I will do 'in box' reviews of this stash along with explaining my current plans for each kit identifying the aftermarket I have sourced. I might do such a thread for my 1/32 stash too but I only now have three kits in it, that said, it may grow with new releases over the forthcoming period, I hope so.
So, those are my plans...
Right now I am cleaning up my bench area and doing some prep towards moving house but I will post my first review in a day or two and do a new review every few days.
