Just what constitutes 'What's on the bench'?

....just how much of the build can be shown before it becomes a full blown effort and should be in 'Under Construction'?

Are just a few lead in pictures allowed to show the kit, or can main stage photos be added, as and when?

I ask as I don't want to overstep the mark and annoy anyone by doing something wrong.

    Thanks.

Its just a thread to show what you have going on. if you want to post every stage of a build every time you work on it, it is obviously the wrong place. On the other hand, if you want to post every week or two, just showing where you are on a build, then it suits that level of engagement.
From my perspective I mostly paint figures. If I blogged every build and paint job in full every time, my posts would get really old really quickly because the process is virtually identical. Just showing them at intermediate or finished stages enables me to contribute to the forum without boring everyone to death.

Personally (and this is personally not a view of the admin), i feel that just a pic (maybe two) showing what you have going on is sufficient. If you want to keep on showing progress with the same kit then imho it should be in a build thread. Otherwise i feel that you are just doing a build thread but not in a build thread.

But this is just my POV. Be it wrong or right

I posted a couple of pics of my 88 because it was taking forever and was a totally stock build. There's no way it warranted a thread. I think as a way of letting the forum know you're still alive without the thread update commitment, it's top notch.

I get where you are coming from but there is nothing that says how long or short a build thread has to be or how long a time from start to finish.
I think I might have done a few that are pretty truncated especially well covered subjects, or things that just build so well I get carried away and suddenly I'm done.

just shows how differently people perceive things

i thought the whole idea of the thread was to show updates on what you were building without doing a build thread cos not everyone can be bothered to do one..............so its a sort of collective build thread for everyone

Trouble is, Paul, a build on 'What's on the bench' where you show updates on what you are building without doing a build thread is rather like doing a build thread where you show updates on what you are building. Which seems to make 'What's on the bench' the same as a build thread.......:upside:

I feel a nose bleed coming on as a result of my trying to clarify just what does go in a build, or doesn't, in the 'What's on the bench' build thread.....

Me too. Hope the forum doesn't implode.....

To lighten the mood, my FIL was having a conversation with Microsoft support trying to sort his new 'pooter out. The adviser on the phone asked him what was on his desktop.. " A cup of tea and some pens" FIL replied. The guy then asked if there was anyone else in the house he could talk to.....

Given that I started the 'What's on the bench' thread, I feel I should explain the thinking behind the thread. I started it as a way for those who don't have the time or confidence to blog their builds to show what they are doing. A gentle way into posting perhaps, show a few pictures of what you are building, not a step by step of your build. That said, the odd update now & again, like Tim does with his wargame figures is fine in my book. The idea for the thread came from a discussion on the forum about why so few people post their builds, with many reasons suggested.
Really it's a case of using your own judgement about how much you post, after all, we all see an interesting build on the thread and wonder about how it went.

i was planning on using the thread quite a bit.............ive got a lot on my plate at the minute and im sort of in the middle of 'posting burn out'........im finding im happy reading but finding it a struggle to post stuff (not just here......im on 3 other forums)......just dont have much enthusiasm for it at the moment

but no worries, will just do a finished thread when i get round to building something again

as an aside......i was once on a forum that didnt have build threads......each member had a 'work bench thread'.......so everything they built (cept for GB of course) went in a single thread.......in some ways its was good cos you built up a record of what you built all in one place

570 I feel a thread about what's on the floor or has been lost would in many cases be more appropriate, esp in my case .
