I needed 6 mm hexagonal rod for my T1E1 mine roller, and after a lot of searching, found a model shop that actually sells it:

I bought the CDL because it’s been on my wish list for some time, and it was reduced to about 25% off. The rigging line and thinner rod are mainly because they may come in handy too

      Hi Guys

i've been in the Uk visiting my son at uni so took the opportunity to visit a few model shops - not many around these days!

the first was a wargaming shop in Pool called Entoyment Wargaming and hobby Centre. A great shop with a huge range of wargaming stuff, mostly 28mm but also 15mm and 1/72 scale.

      I bought these:

The Pz1 is for an early WW2 diorama with Polish cavalry. The chariots are for my brother's birthday, he is the war-gamer in the family. The elephants just looked so appealing and I fancy the idea of building one,i think I will build one and give my brother the second. Although, the Celtic chariots do look really good ...

The second shop is mainly mail order rather than a shop, but it does welcome visitors; Magister Militum which sells wargaming stuff, in this case the 1/286 stuff by GHQ, only bought a few packs:

British artillery figures, German raft bridge, and German sturmboot ferry. all great for small scale dioramas.

Don't laugh, but a visit to a pet shop resulted in this purchase; plastic pond plant:

Ideal to add to my Ambush boxed diorama, or any jungle type diorama.

Again, don't laugh, but we do not have an Halfords in Guernsey so when we take the car to the UK I take the opportunity to stock up on their primer paints:

The final modelshop was in Windsor, called Mantua Model UK Limited. It mainly stocks model boats ( the Italian Mantua range) and radio controlled stuff there is also a few general modelling items. i like to support local model shops so I bought these:

The brass bits in the middle are interesting, they are parts for ships but look to be just about the right size for the English Civil war musketeer gunpowder holders - the '12 apostles' as they were known. This is what I really enjoy about going into shops - seeing something which can be used in an unexpected way. There is no way I would have found those on the internet.

All in all a productive trip - and nice to see me son!!!

      Peter

Fifty years ago the owners manual for my car explained how to change the spark plugs. In the manual for my current car it tells me "Don't drink the battery fluid". I rest my case!!

I’ve more than once called Health and Safety the official state religion of the UK Sure, it’s everywhere in the western world, but you guys seem to have a particularly bad case of it.

Forty years ago, I built models using my father’s scalpel as my hobby knife. I don’t think many ca. 8-year-olds today would get that, not even after having it explained to them as it was to me, that it’s very sharp so be careful, now here you go.

At times I feel embarrassed about some of the 'best offers' I have made, but that soon wears off once you get a few cheeky bids accepted!! - This ended up as £13.70 delivered ( brand new sealed in bags! )
