Bit of a experiment Tim, believe it stains the PE so if it chips you do not get that bright metal look

IIRC, it chemically blackens (or browns) the brass.

Ah, right…..it’s gun blue…….Birchwood Casey was what we used before dedicated model stuff was available, still got some somewhere Just for info, you’ll need to degrease the brass before you use it, or the brass can go a bit spotty……..just a wash with meths and a soft brush will do it.

That’s the term I couldn’t think of yesterday … Not something available just anywhere in the world, though, so the stuff aimed at modellers can be the easier one to get. (Earlier this year, when I built my first set of Friulmodel tracks, I looked up how to “rust” them easily, and found people recommending gun blue, but I ended up buying a bottle from Mig instead after all.)

It was my birthday yesterday and I bagged this lot from the family :hungry:

The PT boat crew are for my long planned D-day project and the book is self-explanatory

Produces a dark, black antique finish on pewter, lead, zinc, brass, bronze, copper, nickel, tin-lead alloys and solders.

Something like this should be easy to get Jakko….no firearms connotations :tongue-out3: Failing that, buy some selenium dioxide and make your own LOL.

White vinegar is what I use for degreasing PE , works well and is cheap!

So although I bought nothing at Telford, I did win this on eBay on Friday night and it arrived today, so very good service.

However, it was bought with some birthday money I had been given and as that's not for another few weeks, I can't officially do the big reveal until then, so you just have to wait to see what it is! :smiling5:

More of a surface etchant than a degreaser Steve……cheaper than etching primer though :thumb2: Washing soda works as well……

Decided to go to a new shop today. Went to the Scale Model Shed (not to be confused with our home) to have a look. It’s a new bricks and mortar store off of the A303 near Ilminster in Ilford business park. I had a good look around, and was even given a cup of coffee
I had some birthday tokens, so bought a couple of kits…..unusual for me……

Hoping the putty is like the unobtainium Tamiya putty….
The primer Surfacer is because I’m running out of Alclad grey and still can’t get on with acrylic primers on kit builds…..
The Citadel paint is from the “contrast” range, which I’ve yet to try…..it’s a bit like a thick wash apparently, colouring and shading an object over an appropriate primer undercoat……and I’ve got some figures coming up that I want to try yellow shades on, so let’s see what happens…..

The Jagdpanther is meant to be a really good kit. It's already on my 'defo buy' list
