What's all this about 'Happy New Year'!? Not so far it ain't!
I told you guys about me tripping over one of my cats in mid November. The initial diagnosis was a broken left ankle along with two broken bones in my left foot and three fractured toes on my right foot. I went back for the usual check up after two weeks and the new x-rays revealed a further two fractures on my right foot. Still in a lot of pain, I went back to the hospital a couple of days ago - turns out the support boot they gave me for my left foot was causing me to walk lop sided. That in turn somehow stopped the fractures in my right foot from healing. Not to worry though, it's sorted now so on the mend.
However -
At about the same time I did this, my central heating and hot water packed up. Got the plumber out and he got it running four days later. It ran for nearly one day before it went off again. Two days later the plumber fixed it again - this time for about a day and a half. Three days before Xmas it broke again and I had to wait for nearly a week for another plumber - who promptly condemned my boiler! (He reckoned it was the one they took from the Ark when Noah had finished with it). I'm still waiting for the new one to be installed, but good news, they'll be here on Tuesday.
The day before New Year's, I heard water splashing about in my kitchen. It was heavy rain coming through the extractor fan. Fortunately there was no rain for a couple of days so no more leaks. When the plumber arrived to fix it, it turns out the grill on the outside vent had been put in upside down, so it was guiding the water into the house instead of outside! Only the Gods know why it hadn't let water into the house after all the other rain storms we had last year.
New Year's day I cooked up some potatoes on my electric cooker. Nearly set the house on fire when I went into the lounge to eat my meal. Turned out the switch for the burner was faulty and it didn't turn the burner off so it stayed on and almost set the wooden covers on fire. £35 for a new switch that fortunately my brother-in-law can fix as he's an electrician.
He turned up to find the problem and had to move the cooker from between the cupboard units to gain access to the fixing screws. I thought while the cooker was moved I'd just vacuum the dust bunnies that had accumulated round the sides and back of the cooker. Vacuum cleaner would not work! £65 for a new motor unit which is supposed to arrive today - fingers crossed.
The same evening I got two phone calls. Both supposedly from my bank saying my debit card had been hacked. One call was bogus so I guess it was from the hacker trying to get more details (worrying though that he'd got my card number, account number, sort code and online username. I've not given my user name to ANYONE. The only place and time it's used is when I log on to my account). The other was a genuine recorded message from my bank. New debit card ordered next day.
Anyway, that's why I've not posted much recently. Not won anything on the Lottery either - wonder why?
