Another 18 years before I can get the state pension :loudly-crying: with a bit of luck I'll be able to stop working before that though, hopefully! The brains already getting into the retirement mode but the body can't yet
Well the story is I just stopped working five years ago. Lets just say that I was a train reck, so the misses put me out to grass.
This 'senior pension' thing is first a possibility 6 years befor State pensions age. I was expecting them to say no, so I was very happy to get that letter. This will be replaced by the state pension when I turn 68.
Good for you Ian, I'm semi retired and living off my Employers Provident Fund and monthly insurance pay off and waiting for my savings interest to mature as a lump sum. The corvid has interrupted travelling plans.
WELL from what i can see of it most of you are still youngster's but good that you have retired as that gives the teenages more chiose of job an i am a fully fledged penshioner thats why i keep forgetting things lol

I didn't realise this site has so many old gits pensioners!
Well done Ian, getting something back from them after paying in all your life should be celebrated. I have to wait another 13 years, provided they don't move the goalposts, AGAIN!

Does this mean you will be nice to us from now on ?
Good for you, Ian!
After a lifetime of stressful, desk-based jobs I jumped ship and took on a no-stress job - for a lot less money.
I'm now a skipper on the pleasure passenger launches on Windermere, England's largest lake. My four day week works fine, but I'm hoping to switch down to a three day week in the not too distant future. State pension is still some way off - I'm 62.
Retired 13 years ago, military pension from 40 and Local Government pension on retirement at 60; State pension kicked in some 8-9 years ago but to be honest I get very little of it as it's termed 'Unearned Income' and I lose most of it in tax on the other two! I work occasionally for the benefit of my wife's school and she keeps me on my toes by finding a range of "... things to stop you from getting bored Love ... " :rolling:
Steve
I too retired some 6 years ago at age 65.
NZ have an arrangement with the UK, where my British pension gets paid to the NZ government, and then I receive a full NZ pension, which to be fair is not bad.
Retirement is highly recommended.
Strength isn't about what you can do, rather it's about overcoming what you thought you couldn't do.

I know what you mean Steve, now if I could get my wife to stop finding things for me to do..........
The warning sign is, "Garry I was thinking......" (me thinking.....RUN)

In our 56 years together (today is our anniversary) we've moved 16 times. Invariably, remodeling the last bathroom is followed by a search for our next nest. We have been here for 30 years and I've done both bathrooms already at various times and thought I was safe, but a contractor is coming today to start doing the downstairs bathroom, a full tear out. I'm getting nervous.
