    Ebay silly price

Hi, several years ago I was bought a Tamiya 1:12 Lola model, and never did anything with it. I've only opened the box twice, and one of those was tonight to take some pics for putting it on Ebay.

On Ebay however, there are 2 currently for sale, at £250 and £325!!!

I know it was only £60 new a few years ago - trying to remember when, but doubtful it's longer than 10 years ago.

But the ebay price seems stupidly high. Should I start it at £50 and see what happens?

Meanwhile, I'll be starting on my plane soon

Hi Mark, just hold on till someone gives you better advice. The Lola seems a collectors item as I haven't seen it in Tamiyas catalogue for a while. Not into cars but that looks nice.
It all depends on whether you need the money or to have someone appreciate the kit.

    Cheers,
    Richard

Thanks Richard. Well it’s been up in the loft for years, so not desperately important that I get rid of it asap. I suppose a bit of both, I don’t want it to go for next to nothing, but then I’m not greedy, and I think I would prefer it to go to someone who will appreciate it. I’ll be hoping they send me pics when they’ve completed it

        Hello Mark,

I agree with Richard, try and get a better idea of it’s value before selling.

There are some chancers on eBay who over price items but if the general consensus is a high price then that is probably its value.

As nice as the idea of not being greedy and allowing someone the chance to build it is you are equally likely to have someone buy it just to sell on at a big profit.

        Good luck.

        Geoff.

I'd split the difference and start it at 150. As has been said, if you start it too low you'll attract resellers

I can understand your kind attitude of not selling it to make a fortune but....
If there are a couple of collectors that want it it could for 'silly money' The only difference is that you end up with more money to use on what you really want.
It's not like you are forcing them to pay for it.
But if you want to sell it for £50 I'll take it off your hands. (as a service to you that is).

Have a look at the current eBay items and see if there are actually any bidders Mark. If there are, then the chances will be that the prices are fair. If not, they are probably overpriced. I would certainly then watch those items to conclusion to get a feel for demand before you put yours up. When you do list it, watch out for people offering to “buy it now” from you for less than its worth. They will probably just relist it at a profit to them, no matter what they say.

The ones I have just seen on E-bay are all (but one) around the usd600 price tag. (GBP460).

Personally I’d fill me boots then Mark. You can buy quite a lot with that sort of money…..

                    Mark,
I'd be inclined to start it at, like Peter, at £150 - I've been watching race track car kits on ebay for a few months now - I've never seen the 1/12 Lola for sale - it dates from the early 70's (although there was an updated version with PE parts issued in 2011 ).
Race Track cars, like Formula 1 & Le Mans cars are best sellers on ebay & prices are very good ( or bad it you're a buyer! ). - I've bid on 16 in the the last ten days, but not won one  - but that's me being a bit tight!
                    Good Luck!!
                    Dave

Start it at 150 and place a reserve price on it. You could buy quite a few newer kits/equipment with the potential money made from this sale. So maximise your profit from it imho. As others have said. The collectors will snap it up if sold cheap and then just re-sell it afterwards with the profit you could have had in your account.

I've only sold one item on eBay recently - not model related but did as Alan and Peter suggested - looked at prices of other items of the same type - set a sensible but not greedy reserve and waited....it sold within 24 hours!

Looking at the sold listings, there are some that achieved only about £50, and some around £150. I couldn't see any that sold for more. Here's the search results https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_s...ola+T70&_sop=3

Seems to depend on the search.
