    A Good Base ?

Ok what makes a good base ? Since joining the forum i've made two bases both simple, 1 just an oval base and varnished the other ( hopefully ) looks like the edge of a runway with the plane sat on it. What i'm trying to say is how do you go about building them and when does a base become a diorama ? I hope you all understand what i meen

A base can be any thing you want. I have seen waterline ships displayed on a piece of varnished slate, with just the wake painted on around/after the ship. A tank on a bit of flat sand stone....

Any thing that you feel looks apt.

As for when does a simple base become a diorama thats generally down to the amount of stuff on it. A simple base or Vignette if you rather, is normally a simple display; the main item and a couple or three extra items to give it atmosphere. A diorama is more a complete scene with several major items and more going on.

I Hope you know what I mean.

Now this is a diorama http://www.scale-models.co.uk/completed/14497-completed-spanners-sniper-g-b-flush-im-out-now.html

and this is what I would call a simple base or Vignette http://www.scale-models.co.uk/artillery-self-propelled-guns-anti-aircraft-guns-etc/14199-vulcan-1-35-scale-2lb-anti-tank-gun.html

I think a base simply displays a model and can be very simple as Ian says.

A diorama should tell a story,at least the good ones do.

      Cheers
