If people wanting to reply to several messages is very common, there is also an option in the forum software that adds a link below each message to allow multi-citing. With it enabled, users can click on the link below each message they want to cite, even when those appear on different pages in a thread, and then cick on a button below the field in which you can type to insert all of them in one go.

TBH, though, I don’t really see what functionality this adds over just scrolling back up to another message and hitting the Reply link for it.
