    I've lost my mate....

I know this is a modelling forum, but I had to share this post with my friends on here.

Jodie, our 13 yr. old Mastiff x Alleyway was put to sleep yesterday afternoon.

We took her from the RSPCA when she was 2 yrs. old.

She was a great dog and travelled well. Outer Hebrides 3 times and and all over this wonderful country of ours.

She was not ill, just 'closing down' and I didn't want to see her start to suffer from all the 'Painful' things that start to happen to old animals.

She was sleeping most of the day, deaf and 50 yds. was her limit for walking. Our vet said we came to the right decision.

Anyway, yesterday afternoon, my wife and I buried her along with our other 4 dogs who rest dotted about the garden.

"Cremation next one" said the wife. At nearly £600 a pop, I doubt it! In any case, I'm too old now for another dog, but there again......

So there you go. One empty house......

    Cheers.
    Ron

Sad news Ron but as you say it was for the better. Its always hard to loose a furry family member.

Sorry to read this Ron but it was the best decision. We had a mastiff too that got old and blind and was very close to my Mum and Dad. It was hard to persuade them to part with him but in the end they agreed and it was for the best. Very large grave compared to the rest of the dogs.

        Hi Ron
My thoughts are with you both. I know exactly how you feel. Last year we said goodbye to our Ceri she was 16 and just like your Jodie she had "lost her sparkle". When you take on a puppy you make the promise that when the time comes you will do the right thing. That is very hard but not making the decision is a selfish act. We have also decided not to have another dog at the moment. We have had a dog or two in our life for 46 years so even now the house seems empty but my wife and I are enjoying doing things which were not possible with a dog.
        Take care.
        Jim

Sorry for your loss, Ron. It's never an easy decision to "put them to sleep".
We had the same experience three years ago and still feel bad when we think to the moment when we had to call the vet and bid him farewell, but nothing can deprive us from the happy and cheerful moments we spent with them.

A friendly hug to you and your dears.

Oh Ron, I am really upset to hear of the news. They are more than pets, like children really and part of the family, my thoughts are with you and your wife.

                      Thanks ever so much chaps.

In a way it's comforting to read that others on here have been through the same mill.
Your kind comments mean a lot to us both. As I wrote Jodie was our fifth dog. We never learn from each heart break, do we?

I've just come in from checking our stuff for the camper and came to the dog's list of things to take away. Off I went!

Thanks again for your kind thoughts.

                      Ron

Truly sorry to hear this Ron. It is numbingly hard losing a loved one (pet just doesn’t cover it), especially a loved one that gives far more than it takes. Time does ease the pain though, and I hope the rawness of your grief subsides quickly.
We do learn from the heart break. What we learn is that the end is painful, but the glorious years before it are worth that pain so we do it again and again.

                              Ron,
My heart goes out to you and yours. We have had 3 wonderful rescue dogs who filled our lives they are also buried in our garden. We now have two more rescue dogs who keep us busy. I can't imagine being with out them.
