An ebay puzzle!

Obviously my brain is too simplistic to see through these auction ploys - all it does is annoy the hell out of me! In fact I'd be less inclined to bid on any item listed like that. It's just odd that I've not come across it, even though I've been on ebay for a good few years!

Yes, I tend to make what I think is a fair bid, and if it fails to reach the reserve I make no further bids, even if I'd be prepared to pay a little more.

Haven't done an ebay bid before. Perhaps the reserved price has a an alert for the seller once its reached to release the sale to the lucky bidder.
