Can't get motivated.

There are several reasons I suppose that I've not really been at the bench recently. My love of Russian Armour has taken a huge blow. Since the diorama of the collapsed bridge wasn't to my liking I started a very brief attempt at 1/72 . My thoughts were it would allow me to build much smaller dioramas, well that soon came to a rather abrupt halt after realising that some of the scale was a step to far. Still had a go with 2 built and 2 in the bin.

Following that bad chest I felt so tired at times that modelling was the last thing on my mind. This attack on the Ukraine hasn't helped one bit either.

Now in-between the garden which takes up a good deal of time I started the German Bunker . One kit done , needing some alterations before painting. The second which will be heavily modified to show the interior sits on the side of the bench with the horses and cart kit .

The only thing I have managed is to make a cardboard box for those clips on a stick , suppose that's a start .

Been thinking about a French street scene , just the buildings !

Hopefully this none modelling phase will soon pass . Anyone else feel like this ?

Absolutely mate. We all do. Life takes over and other things become a priority. I hope your chest is okay now and that you are feeling better. Sounds like you have a lot of ideas up your sleeve. Take it easy mate and the mojo will soon return

P.S Ever thought of trying 1/48 scale??

I fully understand how you feel because I'm exactly the same. My mojo goes from one extreme to the other. There are so many things which take up my time and although I try to get a balance sometimes that doesn't work out. I have done no modelling since before we went on holiday and yet I've been busy. Dentist, the garden, we bought a new TV and had the Sky engineer come, family etc, etc.
I hope your bad chest improves. Your beautiful garden must take up a lot of time especially at this time of year and you need time to just sit and enjoy it. I have no doubt that your modelling mojo will return and we'll see another of your stunning dios. I do like the idea of a French street scene. That would be right up your street :hungry: :hungry:

I'm with you 100% on this John.
I really want to be modelling but I never quite seem to get my act together. Too much other stuff happening so I relegate model time to the evening by which time I'm knackered.
When I do get everything out ( I'm still using the spare room) often I just stare at the kit for 10 minutes & then turn the telly on.
Let alone all the irksome day to day stuff that just makes any creative feelings curl up & die.

I also shot myself in the foot by deciding to save models for rainy days and the weather's been mostly lovely down here for ages.

Apart from that it's all running smoothly.

I hope you get back on form soon.

Yes John I often suffer from lack of mojo.

It’s not that I’m disinterested in modelling as such as I still look at forums or YouTube but I just don’t have the urge to do any building.

It eventually passes though and I get back into it.

I think Jim’s right, sit back enjoy your garden, pop on here for a look now and again and you’ll soon get the urge to get back to the bench :thumb2:

we all go through this,and if you have other distractions, then benchtime will take a hit. Just go with the flow - the models won't disappear if you don't tend to them!
My father, a keen gardener & modeller confined his model making to the months between October & March, the rest of the year was in the greenhouse, never a mix of the two!

I recently commented with a colleague that most of the modeling works i see are so boring that I don't even want to open the topic, PzIII, Sherman this, T34 that .... and really who is so autistic that he watches for years and is happy to do the same things that are seen many times, in all types of variants. I was just fed up with even watching, quite solid works. Also some of my projects that are in the work are so boring to me. For a change, i started doing aircrafts in 1/72, which i haven’t done in almost 25 years. Try changing the subject or just wait.

I feel ya Dude 2. I get that way too, as you know. Back to working a couple of days a week does zap me a bit. Just take your time, get the greenhouse emptied and planted, ride a few Kms and enjoy the fresh air. The mojo will be back before you know it. The French street scene might also be a good way to boost the mojo...PM later too (watched too much soccer yesterday)............

Happens to us all John. To a lesser extent it happens to me in almost every build I do. There is always some point where I think “god this is a bit boring, why do I do it”. Funnily enough, I’ve found the build energy comes back towards the end. Every now and then I change subjects for a while just to get some variety. The recent Tank GB is a case in point, it helped me no end because I hadn’t done a tank in ages.
If you don’t feel like it, Don’t do it. This is a hobby, not a job! Plan something, or read something, or watch something, or just chill. The mojo will return, sometimes when you least expect it. Had the bad chest myself, by the way, straight after Covid……Still not quite gone, I cough occasionally in the evening, and my ears aren’t quite functioning, but it’s on its way. It’s taken a month to get to this point.

I will sometimes flag in the middle of a build, most commonly when I find a lot of filling and sanding to do. What I do is just aim to make a little progress each day. I might just spend 5 minutes or so at it each day until I work through ‘the blockage’ and move to a more enjoyable process.

I also make sure that I only have one build on the go. Starting a new build is the reward for finishing one. When I am around half way through a build I will ‘wet my appetite’ for the next by researching the next subject but will not cut plastic until I finish what I am working on and done a full bench/tool clean up.

I get it quite often too John,
In fact I'm struggling to get the enthusiasm up at the moment to finish my 223 Dio.... It usually happens as I enter the closing stages of the figures,as is the case now!
I'm really looking forward to the upcoming Spitfire and Mosquito GBs as planes are way out of my comfort zone

John first I hope you will be ok and sit back and relax enjoy your Garden trust me you won’t lose your audience here. I get that way start something else to get the Mojo going and so on but it seems to never help and I’m overwhelmed with unbuilt kits that’s why I’ve stopped any new builds and going back to the ones I never finished. This world is very depressing right now but find a happy place like your garden and what you enjoy and stay there. I just got mine Garden in and it’s the smallest I’ve ever had but that’s all I can do anymore I had to face it. So if you need a break take it we’ll be right here. Hang in there my Friend if you need to talk you know you can always PM me and you in my prayers.
