    Anyone got a Scalextric Digital?

Does anyone know anything about the new Scalextric digital sets available? my son has said he wants a scalextric for xmas (so do I ) but I think he will get bored of it after a while just like he does with everything, but I was going to get one of the digital kits but don't want to pay £200, so just looking for a bit of advise on what digital sets are out there for round the £100 mark

I know a guy who's in a slotcar racing club. He mentioned that the digital cars have a chip inside and you can actually control the car and not the track, so two cars can race in one lane etc.

In one of the french racing clubs he mentioned that the cars are digital and they also have a facility for switching lanes as you are racing, I guess that would allow for some Schumacher style defensive manouvers on the corners!

Slowing down on the chicanes and punting off the following car with your tailend was also the most fun bit of slot cars tho - in my opinion!

CHeck out ebay John, quite a few sets around the £100 mark (Brand new) in the UK. Tick the worldwide setting and theres hundreds. Asian sellers got the best deals on big sets ( Dollar is really weak at the moment) Obviously anything ordred from abroad stands a chance of not being here for Xmas. But you get twice as much for your money.

Ebay standard tips (You prpbly know already but just in case)

      1. Only pay by insured methods, Paypal etc.

      2. If buying from abroad make sure the vendor marks the item as "gift". Sometimes this will avoid import tax. I have ordered a lot of stuff from abroad (USA, China, Hong Kong) and so far managed to avoid the taxman.

      3. It is always worth getting delivery with international track and trace/ insured (Airmail).

I went for the cheap overland parcel post once and the item took 3 months to arrive.

      4. If the vendor has any bad feedback at all, do not buy.

      5. Always email the vendor from within your ebay user account, asking for definate information regarding the item- ie. Is the item in full working order? is the item complete? Is the item new/sealed/ not a factory second. Is the item an original manufacturer product? (Not a fake)

I was just about to request that one to you John if i had come on here sooner i would of let you know. Hope you got it and have fun "testing" it lol. If there is a fault with it then keep the reciept and you will have 14 days after xmas to return it as your 30 days may run out. If you need to take it back and they do not accept it then let me know and i will sort it out for you.

Digital scalextric is fun but I bought the conversion set with the 6 car powerbase so I can have upto six cars racing at once as the sets only come with a four car powerbase, just need to get another two digital cars to make six up and upto now I have spent about £600 on 3 analogue sets,a Sportworld set and a Digital conversion set with lanechangers and about 8 cars and aload of extra track.

You can never go wrong with scalextric as it can be loads of fun for the whole family and friends.

Sounds like Christmas Past has come back to haunt me

I remember my first scalextric set at xmas back in 1968 - I was 5 years old - I got to open the present but did not get to play with it until after xmas dinner. The reason being my Dad and Grandad hogged it to themselves, they had it set up on the dining table, when I thought they had finished it just happened to be time to clear the table for Xmas Dinner !! Yes, they were testing it out for me !!

To be honest, I would be exactly the same now....

                      Regards....Mark

Talking of xmas past my dad bought me scalextrics when i was 2 months old for my first xmas back in 88. He stuck me in the car seat and i watched them go past. He even made his own cars for the set. At the time he had a ford capri 3l and he made it to the same design and was great. I passed it on to my cousins now as i had 4 sets. Such fun. I actually miss them.
