    Howdy Timmah,

Well, I personally have never used the adhesive backed foil, but I do use a product called "Hobby Mask" which is produced and offered by "Artool" you can find their website here: www.artoolproducts.com

but you can find the mask i am talking about here: http://www.iwatamedea.com/products/artool/mask.jsp .

And below is an excerpt from the website:

    Hobby Mask

What will you do with Hobby Mask?

    Protecting clear parts:

    · Aircraft canopies: mask the glass, paint the frame

    · Scale autos and trucks: cover windows and lights

    · RC cars: mask the windows and paint it up

    Doing camouflage:

    · Aircraft: splinter and modern geometric designs

    · Armor: WWII and modern

    · Ships: hull patterns

    Doing panel accents:

    · Aircraft: weathering new and old panels

    · rmor: replacement patterns

    · Sci-Fi vehicles: federation and Aztec patterns

    · Railroad: weathering accents, new and old panels

    Doing striping:

    · Cars and trucks: racing and accent stripes

    · Aircraft: airline markings, invasion stripes

    · Ships: waterline, deck markings

"Artool Hobby Mask makes fast work out of masking large areas and tackling intricate painting and airbrushing graphics. This solvent proof adhesive clear film stretches well and conforms easily to odd contours and corners."

    - RC Car Action Magazine

    Item HM-1 6" x 10 yds.

    Read the press release.

One difference i am sure of between this film and the foil is that once masked, you cant see through the foil to trim the masking. With the film, you can see support structures on things like canopies through the film allowing you to trim away the un-needed film more easily.

If i am not mistaken, I think I paid about $13.00 (USD) for the 6 inch x 10 yard roll I have........and it doesnt look like I am about to run out anytime soon.

I hope this is of some help to you, have a good day,

    Greg aka GW

Hi Tim, How much foil do you want? I have about four ton of self adhesive foil backing (used on mirrors) it's light and perfect for scale jobs etc. It comes in rolls of between 800mm to 1000mtr widths with about 5-8mtr in lenghth, the cost per roll is £35 - £45 respectively, I hope this is of help to you.

      cheers Dave

The foil you mentioned is called 'Bare Metal'. It's sold in all sort of colours, you can get any.

I got mine from sbxmodels.co.uk (that's if you're in the UK) but I think you can get it in any modelling shop. It's not cheap and it's only A5 size, but it works really well and will do you for many canopies.
