Minor but annoying accidents

This afternoon, I was making my way here, when I saw that a 14-metre whale that had washed ashore (dead) on Saturday, was being removed. So, I though, let’s take a look. That turned out to be not the best idea I’ve had today …

What happened was that I still had some speed from riding down the seaward side of the dyke, and when I turned my handlebars, my front wheel gave way because of loose grit on the asphalt. This resulted in the ground rapidly making its way towards me, and part of my right hand turning a bright red at the base of my thumb

After getting up, and a German tourist coming over to help, I decided to go to the Polderhuis museum that’s a few minutes away, reasoning that there would be a first-aid kit there. I was in luck, because not only did they have one of those, but there happened to be a beach lifeguard there too, who naturally also has a first-aid diploma. She bandaged up my hand as you can see in the picture.

Hope the wound heals soon and you're not in too much pain. It will be research rather than modelling for a while.

                Jakko,
Ouch - I bet that smarts - but don't worry - it'll feel much worse tomorrow! Make a note of how far the bruise reaches up your arm! I've done a fair amount of damage to my hands & the effect always seems to spread to the entire arm! You'll find out what you use you use your right hand for & what you can't do. Not a lot you can do about it - pain killers and time are the only aids you can depend on!
                Dave

Thanks, all It’s not too bad, it hurts a bit by now, and my typing isn’t much worse than usual, but I don’t think I’ll be working on models for a while because I found when eating my dinner that it’s not that easy to manipulate tools like this … I also have abrasions on my left knee, though they didn’t actually bleed, but I feel that knee more than the hand at the moment.

They're not used to riding downhill though Ian!

Glad it's not too painful Jakko, hope you heal up soon.

Thanks I decided to go to the doctor this morning, see what he said, and he put a large plaster on it instead of the bandage, advising me to replace it every day. It should heal in about three weeks, so we’ll see, I guess. On the positive side, Dave’s prediction (“it'll feel much worse tomorrow!”) hasn’t come true yet and I can mostly use my hand as normal, so I may get some modelling done after all
