How to spot a rip off on ebay Part 1

Firstly check out this link (and look also at his other items)-

Did you spot the three things wrong?

    1. Its a £600 retail model.

    2. He wont accept paypal

    3. All his feedback is from December 07 and all from 1p purchases

I feel sory for the bidders, they wont, get there goods.

    (I must admit though i was tempted):knight:

    Hoorah! BARGAINS!

A bid for £599.99 should get me the item! I just need to ask if he'll ship to Nigeria now and does he accept payment in ready salted Mopani worms.

You will be so jealous when you see the vids of me using my new 1/16th R/C tank on Youtube with a big grin on my face for getting such a bargain!

Lets all Email him questions about the item - atleast then he'll have to do some work before he gets banned from Ebay and people have to try to get their money returned!

        hi

And knowing eCONbay the poor sap that buys it wont have any recourse to a refund or help from eCONbay. My friend was recenly ripped of to the tune of 1200 GB pounds. He played it down the line and even used paypal. When the problems started Econ were no place to be seen.

I know a lot of people are honest but a hell of a lot more on there are not! its a con artists paradise and should be avoided. And yes I have been stung on there.

        Cheers kevin

So have I and Ebay were less than useless. I learned a lesson well there and ever since have been considerably more cautious.

You did the right thing by reporting him Tiger but I suspect nothing will happen. I have reported three fisching e-mails in the past and never even got a reply.

Have to be a bit wary and always think - if something looks too good to be true, it probably is!

I bombarded him with a few questions and apparently he's got a pretend order arriving and there might be some imaginary king tigers too - he didn't explain why the low price though - obviously!

It's a shame there is no way of contacting the other bidders in these sort of cases.

He must be some kind of charity seller...or excentric billionaire!!!!!!

i cannot wait for the feedback the guy gets from these sales......unless ofcourse the bidders were the guy himself using multiple accounts to bid up his own stuff...and therefore increasing the 100% feedback for non existant goods.

Which in turn will invite more people to possibly make real bids.

                  I see how it works.....

I simply would not use econba ever again the attitude form the customer service is just simply a joke. the most my mate got was a form letter telling him it was being investigated. Investigated may foot it was forgotten about and hes down all the money he put out.

                    Cheers Kevin

Ebay is fine until you run into a problem - I think as a token gesture towards customer service there's now a phone number you can use! I imagine there are probably about three people working in their call centre for the entire UK! Chances are they will point you back to the website too! Buying from private sellers is always going to be problematic and especially with used items be prepared that you might be purchasing a real klunker!

Saying that - it's a great search engine for finding out what is available and sourcing sellers, especially with the Ebay stores - you can buy directly from them and usually pay less than their ebay price too. Plus it's an awesome time waster!!!!

i buy and sell on ebay, and have power seller status, after over 2000 transactions i have 99.9% positive feedbacks,

BUT and here is the BIG BUT...DO YOUR RESEARCH FIRST...and definately before handing over any large sum of money go view the goods, and weigh up the seller, i never bid more that say £75 without trying to view the goods before hand, for me one of the most useful options is the ' nearest first' - i then go view items i am interested in locally..... i bought my caravan at a crazy knock down price like this, so bargains can be had.......feedback is another way but as tiger shows feedbacks can be generated easily enough to ' back up' a scam.....

lets just hope the buyer sees sense prior to sending any funds..

Thats one thing that makes me laugh if the buyer realises its a scam and refuses to pay he stands a chance of getting poor feedback from the scam artist.

Once feedback is left there is basicaly no way with out a court order to remove it. Its all wrong and a haven for conmen. I sold a laptop on ebay a long time ago. The buyer picked it up rather than having it shipped. He notived that the memory was smaller than was marked on the machine. I offered him a printer to make up for the memory he agreed and went on his way more than happy with wha he had. a week later he posted that i had ripped him off, no mention of the printer he was happy with. What did ebay say? they said nothing just that there was no way to put the error right.

Guy I dont doubt that you are honest in your ebay traiding but there are so many that are not I just feel its too much of a risk to use. Maybe if Ebay took more responsability for the items sold and moderated the users a bit better the problem would be removed.

                          Cheers kevin

I Totally Agree Kevin, Ebay Are Just Happy To Take Thier Fees And To Hell With After Sales Service !!!

Paypal Are No Better, Also An Ebay Business.......

But I Also Add A Packing Slip With Every Item I Sell/ Post, This Also States My Direct Website, Where I Am Happy To Sell Directly, -thus Cutting Out Ebay From Future Sales....

I Also 'screen' My E Bay Buyer Too, If I Dont Like Thier Feedbacks Then I Block/ Remove Their Bids !- I Appreciate There Are Many Unscrupilous Traders On Eby, Which I Distance Myself From....

I Offer Good Service, Good Products And My Feedback Shows It....i Also Like To Think I Sell To Likeminded Buyers..... Oh Well Like Isay Beware On Ebay !

well this tiger went for a wopping £53!! its trange how all the biddings are private, and his feedback is all as a buyer, not a seller.

will have to wait and watch this to see what the feedback comes out as.
