    Different battery types and charging

    Hi all

I just got a futaba 6ex 2.4ghx transmitter and it only comes with a daft 700mah nicd tx battery, and while I can find higher capacity batteries they are all nimh and I just wondered if I would need a new charger to charge this, or if the nicd charger that came with the set will work ok.

    Hi Don,

    I use hi Cap

    NiMh

    in my

    Futaba

FF9 with stock charger with no ill effects,

The charge circuit is in the TX itself with various protection circuits for overcharging etc.

Although to be Honest haven't any experience with the 2.4 units ,but can't see there being much of a difference.

    Futaba

seem to keep the same design characteristics on all there units

    i.e

    the standard charger etc..

Don, strictly speaking if a charger says NiCd that is what it is for. Many say NiCd/NiMH and can sort themselves out or have a switch. Whatever they say, most importantly do not mix NiCd and NiMH when charging - and in practice if you use NiCd charger on NiMH cells it will not do too much harm - although the other way round can, wreck the useless NiCds even quicker.
