Sources of inspiration (or just a lame excuse to buy another kit)

Quite often I get inspired to add a new project to my ever growing dream sheet for building stuff (AKA the stash). This week the inspiration fairy fired two ideas at me.
My job has me travelling extensively and often see something that pricks my curiosity and gets me searching Scalemates for a kit.
This week I have been in Kigali, Rwanda to repair a Q400. Next to the hangar I am working in is the Rwandan Air Force with their Mi-17 Hips like this one -

On the other side is a large aircraft ramp with a Belorussian IL-76TD parked up. This jet started up, departed and returned a few hours later - all I can say is it is ‘kin loud and looks like it was designed by a man whose previous job was designing tractors.

Just need to do some more research on kits, I’ve made a start already and I’m not even home yet.

Rwanda is a fantastic place to visit by the way.
On the bench: Airfix 1/48 Sea King HC4, Revell 1/24 Trabant.
Coming soon: Airfix 1/72 Phantom FGR2.
Just finished: Airfix 1/48 Stuka & Airfix 1/72 Sea King HC4.

Another trip and another visit from the inspiration fairy. Not so much a particular aircraft this time but the Royal Danish Air Force. I’ve always been quite taken by the simplicity of their national markings so when one of their C-130’s trundled past me at Copenhagen airport the other day, I started reviewing my stash for a suitable kit. There are some candidates - F-100, F-104 & C-130 - but I’ll need decals.

Always liked the look of the starfighter in the danish scheme rick , the later overall olive green one , quite sinister!

That Il-76 is just weird…..like it’s been cross kitted from several big jets….

When I saw a Swordfish flying overhead recently I did a bit of research on model kits but successfully fought off the urge to take the plunge on the Airfix or Tamiya kits. Well today I channel surfed and found Sink the Bismarck on Film Four. I have a bit more of a fight with my urges again.

One thing about the Russian aircraft, they are rarely pretty, but they are certainly functional. I mean, how long has the Hip been operating now?

It seems this jet has made a smoking hole in the ground in Mali.

Moral of this story: Make sure that none of your fellow passengers has a Wagner connection, before boarding a flight!!!
