    Magnifying spectacles

Hi guys. Went to my opticians today to find I needed new specs. Nothing too serious, he thinks my eyesight is pretty good for an old guy.

While there, I asked him about magnifying specs - the sort you can wear over your existing glasses - for close up work. He has recommended I try a set with 3X magnification. There are loads about apparently with even the local poundshops selling them but I'd like something a little better quality-wise. Can anyone recommend any?

Dave, I have an Optivisor and it works fine. However, it's a bit heavy if you have neck problems; if I use it continuously for more than an hour I can expect some neck stiffness in the evening.
Here's the link to the company official site Donegal Optical

I follow the lead of the guys on Repair Shop and wear double specs.

I use my prescription readers, then have different strengths of pound shop glasses to wear over the top if needed. I can always find a combination to suit whatever distance & magnification I need, and it's cheap :nerd:

Dave, I acquired these a couple of years ago, good enough for my needs and they come with 4 or 5 different lense strengths!

I tried one of those headband magnifiers and wasn't happy with it. That's why I'm looking for a set of spectacles I can wear over the top of my normal reading glasses as Andy T suggests. I just want something that's likely to be better quality than poundland stuff.

Donegan optivisor are the best I’ve used. Superdrug ready reader specs are decent quality, but may be awkward over other glasses. I also have a cheaper set of magnifiers that go over my glasses, but I find they slide down quite easily, and are heavy on the nose.

Have you considered these, Dave ...

If you Google Mighty Sight loads come up. I bought mine from eBay for about £12. I haven't used them much and they are not up to Optivisor standard but they are better than the price would suggest.
