    My weekend just got better!

I've just seen on the local news on the TV that HMS Illustrious is at this very moment tied up at "Langelinje" quay in Copenhagen. Open day tomorrow and free entry!!!!

Guess what I'm doing tomorrow? I better charge the batteries up for the camera!

Are you allowed on board Ian. I know that in France unless you are French they do not allow you on board a French Naval Boat.

Matter of interest during my very early years the family had a holiday on the Isle of Wight. Probably about 48/ 49.

While there we had a fantastic sight. Early in the week HMS The Ark Royal Aircraft Carrier sailed out from Portsmouth. A few days later out came HMS Illustrious also an aircraft carrier. What a sight they made. Also saw both the liner Queens Elizabeth two funnels & Mary 3 funnels. Some sight for a boy of 10 years.

Down in Devon some few years ago we saw the HMS Ocean slip her moorings on her maiden voyage. We were on a pleasure boat in the Sound & had a first class view.

        Hope you enjoy tomorrow.

Thanks Laurie. Well they say its an Open ship, so I guess we can go on board. As for it being a British Ship I don't think that will be a problem I am as well :-)

Only down side is there are Zero aircraft/helicopters on her!

I will post a few pictures of her when I return.

Laurie this morning. Are you sure it was The Ark Royal ?

                Laurie last night. Why ?

Laurie this morning. As it was the Indefatigable. Remember.

Laurie last night. O yes at 10 years old I could not pronounce the name.

Well while you are arguing with yourself Laurie, I was having a walk around Lusty.

I will just say a few things about the visit. Wet cold and windy! In fact it was so cold and windy that Mrs M and I both got 'ice head aches', you know the ones you get when you eat ice cream to fast.

It really was an awfully windy and rainy day. This resulted in not a great deal of photos. I just snapped a few here and there of some bits here and there.

It was an interesting day and both crew and officers most polite and helpful- as if you could expect anything else. It was quite amusing that when they heard that I was English, they relaxed a bit more and where a bit less formal. I was asked almost as many questions by them, as I asked them! mostly to do with the prices in Copenhagen. I think there will be a few hang overs in the morning....

All in it was an interesting if short visit. Even though it was "open ship" it was very well planed out with a rout through the hanger, up onto the flight deck then down the aft lift then out. So all the real fun bits where off limits. Very polite and heavily armed guards made sure you did not go where they did not want you to go. So you didn't!
