    L.E.D.s

Wonder if anyone, boatman maybe, could offer me some LED advice. I'm making a U-Boat conning tower, and think it would lend itself well to some lighting, maybe a red and white light option. I've not done electronics since school and cannot remember that far back. I bought some off ebay but a) they are smaller than gnats nackers, and b) are literally just the lights. I ideally need a self contained order, LEDs, switch, battery holder, resistor set up etc. i'm ok with soldering...just need the stuff to solder. Thanks in advance, I know this has come up before so apologies for repetition, but I can't find the relevant threads.

Jack, I can’t help directly, but YouTube is my go to place for ‘new to me’ things.

HI Jack boatman here i maybe to help you on this as i use 12v 2mm all colors an some flash leds with about 10inches of wire an a resistor already fitted all you need is a switch an a small 12 v batt that you can get from components shop uk so tell me your needs an i cant promise but i'll see what i can do for you
chrisb ps jack if you look at my tiger when she is lit up you will see the red anti collishion 2mm led's on the masts as i should think you will want red battle lightin in a sub ?

Hi Chris, thank you for the reply. It's more advice I'm after, but thank you for the offer of sending me things, very kind. I think I'm understanding a bit more about what I need. I don't think I need to go as far as 12v...I'm only installing 2 LEDs. The website I'm looking at has 5v pre wired LEDs...does that mean for a battery pack I just need a minimum of 5v worth of batteries...and anything over, the resistors will regulate? And if wired correctly, an on-off-on toggle switch will change between white-off-red lighting?

A google search for LED circuit diagram shows loads of ways. Literally pick the one that suits and off you go.

HI Again Jack yes it does mean just connect the wire with the resistor to the switch an then to positive on batts an neg to the neg on batt an if you use a two way slide switch so that the switch will have 3 terminals on it then conect the main postive wire from the batt to the centre terminal on the switch an the connect the wire with the resistor that goes to the say red led to one of the other two terminanals on the switch an the same with the white led resistor to the last free terminal on the swicth an the wire both neg wires together to fit on batt nenative an then you will have a system where the switch postion in the center nothin goes but then if you slide the swich to one side the led that connected to that terminal will light up an the same again if you throw the swich to the other side then the other led will light up an then back to center postion for all leds to be in off postion

hows that Jack cant make it any simpler ?
