Don’t assume people everywhere do things the way your people do In the Netherlands, for example, cheese sellers tend to cut cheese with a knife like this:

Granny Smiths & Farmhouse Cheddar on fresh granary bread ( with butter )- all washed down with a pint of a 'winter warmer' a lunch to be savoured - I used to visit a spring company in West Brom - timed so we would go for lunch at their local brewpub. Certainly made the highpoint of a boring day!

Was cheese ever sold this way? I recall open market stalls in the 60's selling cheese, but nothing like this! One important thing missing - a set of weighing scales = those were a feature of Roman 'shops', so a set of scales would be present. An elegantly dressed woman, with high heels & a pearl necklace - usual attire for food shopping?. Some of the latest MiniArt sets are a little off-beam to me!

I remember my mother & her sister when out & about wouldn't be caught dead w/o gloves & a string of pearls.& those heels are not that high. Appropriate middle class day wear in the 40s into early 50s.
