Morning all

So as some of you will have seen it's Junior's big day and he is now 15......I am getting old!! :crying:

He's not done too bad.....the usual range of gifts and food. He's started to show an interest in table tennis and so we've bought him an improved bat for that.

But his main present was a kit of sorts....

.....it's not the sort of kit we normally dabble with and it has stickers and not decals....but it is plastic......and when it comes to the parts count, it sneers at pretty much every kit I have ever seen.....at 2017!!

It even has pneumatic parts!! And as a real bonus he doesn't have to worry about seam lines or filler either.....although at almost 2ft in length it is not small.

    ATB.

    Andrew

Wow. That Lego looks huge fun. I remember when my son was Junior's age he was into Lego in a big way. Mind you that was nearly 30 years ago so Lego was much less technical then although they had started to introduce motors etc.

Quite a kit there Andrew, you'll both have fun building that. Nice to see a book on history there as well.

In out youth it was Meccano, with much retrieving of those nuts from the carpet monster.

                Thanks guys!

Jim - I was actually one of the early adopters in either 1977 or 1978 of what used to be called Tehnical Lego, when I got it for Christmas as a 7 or 8 year old. You could make at least four kits from memory. You could get a motor but I never got it. I also remember reading only a few years ago that even at that time it was still the longest 'Technical' kit in their offering.....oh and I still have in the loft...minus some pieces, which I do intend to replace at some point. https://brickset.com/sets/853-1/Car-Chassis

John - so far my wife and i have been the piece sorters and then hand them over to Junior to assemble.....it's kept him busy already.....at least three hours!!

Alan - what's the Cobi stuff like? have seen it around.

                Thanks again.

                Andrew

I think it's alright. Not sure about the price as i don't compare it to anything. But my kids love them so if they're happy, then i am too

It's absolutely stuffed with theory, ideas and techniques - and it cost an arm and a leg.

Like many on here, I've been wowed by the dioramas produced by Martin on the NightShift YouTube channel. Having finished his dioramas with vegetation and soil, Martin paints his dioramas all black, before airbrushing in his own choice of colours. It looks laborious, but delivers fabulous results (in his hands, at least!). He mentioned finding this technique in "Ruben's book" - which turns out to be this.

I'll report back when I've had a good go at the 560 pages!

                        Hi all

So having been corrupted into large(r) scale aircraft by a Mod who shall remain nameless, The Smythe Meister has now corrupted me into joining his Japanese plane GB.

I have made a couple of 1/72 Airfix Zero's but wanted something different, so found this online at a certain forestry related website for the princely sum of £13.53. Despite it's age (1973/4) the moulds appear to have held up well. I imagine this was considered state of the art at the time what with the recessed panel lines and reasonably fine detail. This though is a brand new kit in a brand new box, not a used one and brings my count of 1/48 kits to six!

I must not blame AlanG for subliminally encouraging me to buy larger scale wingy things.....i am responsible for my own actions.....I must accept responsibility!!!

But wait......Andy The Smythe Meister has also been dabbling in 1/48 wingy things....has Alan got to him too!?!?!? :smiling5:

Ok, so now I have got that out of my system, I managed to win both these with eBay bids a week or two ago, a few days apart. The bids were so last-second I had no idea if the bid had even been accepted until I won!!

It turned out both were from the same supplier and so I am in negotiations with the seller about getting some of the P&P refunded, given that the items were sent together - they have in principal accepted my request.

If I get my way on the P&P the Weekend Spit will have cost me £15.50....which will be the cheapest recent eBay purchase for this kit and a bit cheaper than most other Weekend editions I have found.

The ProfiPack 109 will be only have cost me £20 I get the postage discount I'm asking for.... so very pleased with that.

This brings my number of 1/48 wingy things to five....a 'short nosed' 109, the below 'long nosed' version, a Fw109 and two Spits.

I hadn't intended to get a second Spit but had thought about a plane with an all metal finish.....so had thought about get a Mustang or something similar. Then this Spit popped up.

It will also be my first post-war build as and when I get to it, as this plane in this scheme is apparently from some sort of air race in 1949.

                                ATB.

So a bit of an update on this.....as I said the seller had agreed to a bit of a p&p discount prior to dispatch for getting the two models at the same time. Each one was £5.99 p&p.

It turned out that the two cost £6.45 post plus the packaging - and it was very well packaged. I therefore suggested a £4 discount.

I got the refund refund notification this evening and they gave me a 100% discount on one set of p&p - so I only paid £3 per kit.

This means the Spit only cost £14.50 and the 109 £19......RESULT!!
