    One year on.....

I've just had my renewal receipt for this forum which reminds me that I joined a year ago today.

Thank you very much for everyone who has been supportive and helpful to me during this first year of my new hobby. Also thanks for all the blogging and giving me such interesting things to enjoy which in turn is helping me on my journey to be a better modeller.

Before joining my modelling experience was back in 1970s as a child, quickly knocking up Airfix 1/72 kits and soldiers, using Airfix glue and a few Humbrol enamels.

I now have a draw full of Vallejo Acrylics, different glues, fancy tools, washes and pigments and all manners of stuff I'd never heard of a year. I also have a stash, albeit a tiny one. It is fair to say that I'm loving my new hobby and long may it continue.

I've also enhanced my vocabulary in the last year. When I first joined, it was a bit like being back at work where everyone uses special words and acronyms. Words I'd never heard of, or never in a modelling context now flow off my tongue like a native. Stuff like:

    PE
    Pigments
    CA
    Group Build
    Wingy Thing
    Boaty Thing
    The Marlow Method
    Scratch/Scratchery
    Matron
    Wash
    Dry Brushing
    Braille scale
    SHMBO
    Hairy Stick
    Aftermarket

The above are just ones which came to mind whilst typing this. There are loads more I've learnt and no doubt loads more to come.

Again many thanks and looking forward to much more modelling.

It's been a pleasure to have you join in with this group of reprobates. We need new blood to replace those who matron drags off to the funny farm. May you stick with this most absorbing yet pointless hobby for many years to come
Add Carpet Monster to your list of modelling terms. A most annoying little critter.

You're welcome!!! A very similar journey to me although my reintroduction started 8+ years ago!

BTW (by the way) it's SWMBO....not SHMBO.
