    Help Please, What's This?

    A friend of mine does house clearances and brings me 'things' that may be of interest/use to me. Two questions; firstly can anybody positively identify the double-ended 'thingamabob'? (I can see a use for it in pushing putty around) Secondly, the rather brilliant knife, what was its intended use and does anybody know where I can obtain spare blades?

      The double ended poky thing is, I think a dental tool. Used for fillings! :surprised:
      The hobby knife..... Well its a hobby knife. I dont think anything like that was used by a doctor or dentist of any kind!

              There is something stamped into the knife handle — does that maybe give a clue about maker, model number, etc.?

                  What ever it is I'm sure you could find a use for it in modelling . How does the blade fit, is it the normal method used in some craft knives ?

                      Just a push fit John - but it's a lovely little thing, really comfortable in the hand and well-balanced. Never seen one that small up until now.

                          Eureka! It is a podiatry tool; mostly used in the treatment of ingrowing toenails! The 'scoop' end is a probe for the sides of the nails and the other end is called a 'black file'. Useful for putty dinging though I think!

                              I think that the knife handle accepts blades prefixed 'PD', though others might fit.

                              I get my scalpel blades from the imaginatively named 'scalpelsandblades.co.uk' who I imagine would have suitable blades for that handle.

                                  Wow...I don't have professional tools like these and haven't had the opportunity to handle one. Have seen dental ones but not these, good thing they have been identified. I guess they'll have their uses...I like that blade though.

                                      Found out that the knife is/was used in optical surgery! PD blades are the bizz ( Thanks Steve (Stona)!)
