As some of you may be aware, I ordered a 3D printer from the AliExpress website - at a very good price ( too good! ), The order was acknowledged, an invoice arrived in my email & tracking data began to appear on the AE website - I was impressed, as it seemed to be moving quickly................... The tracking indicated that the printer had arrived in the UK via DHL.
Then - an email saying 'package signed for' saying it had been delivered. Needless to say nothing had appeared. The tracking data didn't specify what UK harrier had supposedly delivered the phantom item. I tried contacting the seller ( twice ) - no response. So - I started the dispute procedure through AliExpress. The seller finally contacted me offering me a full refund, providing I returned the printer. Obviously I rejected this. I was expecting a long-drawn out process before I saw my money back. I was pleased to say that AliExpress ruled in my favour very quickly, giving the seller 3 days to respond. I had an email this morning saying I have got my refund. I had paid by PayPal, but they weren't involved - just AliExpress. I'm not happy that I didn't get my printer, but happy that I got my money back without any hassle ( £94.57 ).
For those who don't know, AliExpress shopping website runs as an escrow site. You pay AliExpress, they inform the seller you've paid and should despatch the goods. AE hold the money, until you inform them you have the goods in your hand. Only then do they release payment to the seller.
Initially I was a bit wary of buying from China, usually spending <£20. This was the first purchase over that.
The delivery can be a bit slow, but legitimate sellers do keep you informed with FULL tracking data.
All-in-all I didn't get my bargain printer, but I didn't lose any money!
Dave
PS AliExpress add the 20% VAT ( be aware that the seller advertises without VAT ), so you don't have to pay HMRC
