People???

I stopped in a passing place, yes, I know, but I needed to clean my visor so took a picture to show the nice quiet single track.

Nice, but when you look over the edge you see this.

A load of plaster and tiles along with lots of old carpets, this place is at least 18 miles from the nearest town so it must have taken an effort to go out with all that rubbish, WTF is wrong with people?

Andy.

As long as people employ cowboys this sort of thing is bound to happen. Before employing any tradesman people must do their research, get references, check trade bodies etc. Unfortunately people will always be tempted by the "cheapest quote".

I was just going to post something along those exact lines Jim.

It costs a good deal to dispose of waste correctly so if one gets a markedly lower quote it should be a warning sign that they could be fly tipping. If we stopped giving these cowboys business they'd stop doing it and the problem would be drastically reduced. Simple as that.

I get the impression this is a bit of an epidemic in the UK … at least from some TV shows I’ve seen about it, flytippers can be extremely bold over there.

The phenomenon is not unheard-of in the Netherlands, but it’s usually only very small scale. Except, of course, when it’s this kind:

Be glad it’s just plaster and carpets you found

I used to work at the local recycling centre, people used to tip 100m from the gate...?! You can't make it up!

Chuffing scum...saying that, if councils didn't charge then stuff like this wouldn't be a major issue. Sorry it spoiled your ride Andy.

Not saying it's "right" obviously,!!
.... But I can kinda see why it's happening....
I went to my local recycling plant recently and was turned away...
Apparently because I was in a van,(my own VW Caddy, with just a bed and a few bits from the house we wanted rid of),I was classed as "Trade", therefore had to go online and book in for my visit?!! WTF..
And these w***ers actually charge people for what you leave there?!! ..

It would appear not all councils work from the same hymn sheet!! Our's local site is kinda ok, they are able to recognise trade from private vans. They also use ANPR.
But yeah I agree with we pay to get rid of certain items and they then charge for people/public to take them on!!
I do get that recycling is now big business and someone has to pay for the ever expensive new ways pf recycling!!!

Quite right Doug..
... They certainly don't all work the same... In our case, not even the bin men,(or REFUSE TECHNICIANS,as we are apparently supposed to call them around here these days?!! ),sing from the same hymn sheet as their precious tip workers,(or whatever fancy Dan name they're called these days?!),...
A few weeks ago I couldn't get all the segregated rubbish into the appropriate tubs, when I asked the "operative" what I should do with the excess stuff,he very kindly said,"just chuck it in the big black bin mate... It doesn't matter"!!
Said it all really!!

We have a good relationship with our bin men!! Came about several years ago the bin lorry broke down close to the house, so SWIMBO kindly, (and totally out of character), made them a brew. Ever since - we have never had a problem.

I took an old toilet to our local 'refuse recycling engineering centre of excellence' or whatever it's called. I'm sure it was just the 'tip' when I was a kid. Anyway, they charged me £3.00 to dispose of the old toilet. Gone are the days of spending a penny.
