    Bad day.

For the past year SWMBO has fed stray dogs near her work place and got the news from one of the workers that a 6 month puppy she knew and was fond of was knocked down by a passing car and limped back to her factory compound yelping yesterday. I was called and by the time we managed to coax her into the carrier yelping it was too late for the vets. We took her home and even with pain she didn't utter a sound through the night not wanting food or water. This morning found out that not all vets take in dogs because of the current political Islamic climate. Some do...bless them and the one that did could only do amputations and no x-ray facilities but administered pain killers and diagnosed that she had a fracture. After cleaning her wounds she referred me to a few other vets with x-ray facilities and orthopedic surgery.
Getting there the results weren't good as not only her tibia was broken so was her pelvic bone on the opposite leg. This would mean extensive painful surgeries and very long painful recovery, the cost too would be fenorminal. I had to make the worst decision ever to put her down. We were prepared for the tibia fracture and 6 months of recovery and having her in our little porch and garden but it didn't look like a quality of life ahead with all that surgery and complications could occur the vet said. I stayed with her till the end and buried her with the other cats before. The sweet thing didn't make any noise. SWMBO is still in the office with tissue box number 5..... bad day.

    Richard.

Both you and your wife showed kindness and compassion. The fact that things ended badly doesn't change that. A very upsetting event.

Very sad Richard. Please take comfort in the fact that you did the right thing and did the best you could by her. Sometimes all we can do is ease their passing, no matter how hard it is.

Thank you Jim, Lee and Tim for your words of comfort. Didn't feel like building the last few days but am perking up and picked up an old Airfix kit to work on and get back the mojo.

          Cheers,
          Wabble

Man after my own heart Richard. Well done Mr and Mrs rtfoe.:thumb2:
I could regale a similar tale but I won't. However, mine had a happy ending. What we thought was a feral cat with awful injuries ended up being mended and actually returned to its owners after some 7 years.:smiling4: (A rare event - but the moggy was actually chipped so it was easy to locate the original owners.)

Nice attempt Richard, you certainly both did your best for the little chap. Not a nice decision but considering the injuries you did the right thing.
