That one always puzzles me too jakko , they hold it like its a Ryvita theyre about to take a bite out of , talk to it then hold it horizontally to their ear to listen , then back to the face etc etc. its as if they dont actually know how a phones supposed to be operated!

Believing that constant use of a mobile phone held to the ear can damage the brain. Normally this type use the phone on speaker , so everybody can hear their dribble.

When I had my first mobile I was asked by Imperial Hospital in London to do a yearly survey, how I don't remember , but did this for years. I used the phone a lot and never suffered any consequence.

You know, I don’t have a problem with any of this. It really is a bit of a first world problem

On the other hand, I hate the middle aged jerks that treat a train carriage like an extension of their office….papers everywhere, laptop taking up all the table, briefcase taking a seat on a really crowded train, and making six calls a minute to people checking progress on tasks that they would have already done if they didn’t have to keep answering the phone to give progress reports. I’ve been known to make them move it all so I can sit next to them just to wind them up :thumb2:

Oh, yours are far behind people here — around here they just hold it horizontally the whole time, on speaker so everyone nearby can listen to both sides of the conversation.

My only niggle with 'Mobiles' is!!! I am not legally allowed to use a mobile phone whilst driving. (All my mobile is in the car is to stream music calls are ignored until I get home.) But it's the bicycling and horse riding community who annoy is the politest way I can say it. The number of times I see horse riders struggling with their mounts and they are now in the dilemma of handling their steeds or dropping their mobile to handle the horse!! As for cyclists and mobiles - just plain and simply dangerous!!

AN YES a women an her daugter pulled up along side me at a set of traffic lights an she was on the phone an put my window down to say exscuse me but you should not be on the phone while drivein as the car was running an her daugter shouted at me that its ok as long as the car was stopped crazy people arent they i wished there was a fuzz nearby as i would have pointed her out to the fuzz

I was following a small silver car on the A14 last week. For those not familiar, this is a busy dual carriageway. I was quite happy at about 58 mph, saving fuel but not holding up the truckers, but this silver car kept speeding up to 60-ish then slowing down to 40-something, at the same time veering from one side of the inside lane to the other side. Eventually after about 10 or 15 miles I got fed up of this behaviour and at the next opportunity overtook it. Sure enough, the driver had a phone in his right hand and was looking down at it while apparently texting. Unfortunately that didn't show up on my dashcam.

Yes Pete these idoits know they should not do it yet they do they just think the law dont apply to them as sometimes i get behind some idiot drivin fast then slow down an then up again as this makes me mad if ive got my cruise controll on as cant keep a steady speed

This is why, since 2019, in the Netherlands, operating hand-held electronic devices is forbidden for anyone controlling a vehicle of any kind: cars, bicycles, trams, whatever — if you’re driving it, you’re not allowed to operate electronics that aren’t attached to the vehicle. People riding animals aren’t subject to that rule, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone riding a horse and using a phone at the same time anyway (my own complaint about those is that the vast majority of them ride in the wrong place: the law here clearly states they have to use the road, ride alongside the road, or use designated horse-riding trails; most ride on the bicycle path instead, and don’t want to hear that they’re not supposed to be there).

As a truck driver I had to park up on the service area overnight and in the morning it was a case of wash, shave and other things....
Mobile phones had only just appeared or I should say were getting very popular especially with the business reps...
So here I am sitting and relaxing in the cubicle and the conversation went something like this from the next cubicle...
"Hello"
Me "Er Hello?"
"Can you hear me?"
Me "Yes I can hear you..."
"How are you?"
Me "I am fine, how are you..."
"I am ok, but having a terrible time with the wife..."
Me "Divorce is the only way..."
"Can you hold on a minute, I cannot really hear you as the bloke in the next cubicle keeps talking to someone...."
Me, time to wipe and flush....
