    I bought a new boat

Big STOP on model making for me over the past couple of months. We all know it happens, so I won't apologise or anything like that, but I think I'm back at it.

The other stuff that got in the way was: unexpected retirement, holidays, and the purchase of a new boat.

For the last ten years me and my missus have been holidaying on a tiny cruising dinghy. This thing.

In May we had a fantastic holiday in Brittany, sleeping aboard under canvas, at a gigantic sailing regatta called the 'Semaine du Golfe de Morbihan'. The weather was pretty wild, and at one stage we got stuck in one of the fastest flowing currents in Europe, in the Jument channel, known locally as 'the washing machine'.

We were lucky not to broach or be swamped, and I expected my dear partner to say 'never again'. Instead she said 'we need a bigger boat' (bless her!).

So we got a 21ft gaff rigged centreboard pocket cruiser, Ruby. Here she is.

Our original plan was to take off to Europe with her (behind the car), and spend spring and summer cruising the estuaries, bays and inlets of the French and Spanish atlantic coasts.

However, because we have now 'Taken Back Control' (grr!), we would need special longstay visas to be in Europe for more than three months. So we'll probably avoid the bureaucratic agony of that and do a mixture of domestic and continental cruising.

Should still be lots of fun!

That's a nice little pocket Cruiser . If you want a good sailing holiday I can't recommend a visit to the Danish Islands.

Do you mean you can't recommend them 'enough', or should we avoid them like the plague? (I think you mean the former!)

God damn it! Yes I can not recommend them enough. That was a serious brain fart. lol
We have sheltered waters most places. Small harbours all around the coast that have what you need. (or close by).

I'd love to visit Danish waters, Ian. I've read good things about small boat cruising in the waters between Faaborg, Rudkøbing and Høruphavn. Denmark is definitely on the list.

You need to come to what we call the Southsea Islands. Falster, Lolland, Askø, Femø, Fejø og Vejrø they are all great. I live on Falster near Stubbekøbing across from Bogø and Møn.

                          Retirement Ha!
You will have no time for sailing once the SWMBO realises she now has a permanent labourer/handyman/taxi driver on hand 24/7. I have never been so busy, she even loans me out to the neighbours for odd jobs - three new garden fences (front), two rear garden fences, one wasps nest destroyed along with a few stings, three new porch gutters and relevant water butts, and that is without sorting the central heating, bleeding radiators and decorating - just to name a few pastimes according to SWMBO that will stop me getting bored and out of the house (model room).
Believe me we have all gone and are going through it... Enjoy your retirement...
Enjoy the sailing, decades ago it was 27 foot and 30 foot whaler sailing on the river Stour near Shotley Gate.
                          Mike.

I would try that, have been living close to the line for many years abroad regarding financial and healthcare costs etc. Legally with EHIC card and not earning wages, but now the passport is stamped and finger prints are coming next year......seem stuck with the sad people's vote with no understanding of the real consequences and their belief of the lies of the now disgraced politicians
